Celebrating the Anglican Dream
First time homeowner Ivan Leiva proudly cuts the ceremonial ribbon on the
steps of his new home in Freeport as he is joined by Nassau County Executive
Edward P. Mangano, Freeport Mayor Andrew Hardwick, and representatives
from the Community Development Corporation of Long Island, HUD, Nassau
County Office of Community Development and the Village of Freeport. The
home, formerly a foreclosed property, was redeveloped through a collabora-tion
of the Nassau County Neighborhood Stabilization Program and the
CDC's Reclaim Long Island Homes Program. As part of the Reclaim Long
Island Homes Program, the Community Development Corporation of Long
Island has renovated four homes in the Incorporated Village of Freeport; three
of the homes have been sold to first-time home buyers. Mayor Andrew Hard-wick
says he is "proud to see another Freeporter achieve the American dream
of homeownership". The CDC of Long Island Home Ownership Center is

parade and costume contest. The parade begins
at 12:30p.m. at Woodcleft Ave and Manhattan
St. Learn how to protect your family and home
from fire at the Fire Prevention Exhibition from
l:00p.m.-4:00p.m. The event also includes a
clam shucking contest, chowder contest, bake
sale, crafts, the Nassau County Police Depart-ment
Helicopter, Ronald McDonald, and more.

Never does our "Freeport way" shine better than during those moments when everything goes dark. Enduring a power
outage is never pleasant, and waiting for the lights to be restored can seem like an eternity. Both the 2010 wind storm,
and the recent Tropical Storm Irene brought outages and devastation to Freeport. Yet, your understanding of the out-age
resulting from Tropical Storm Irene was overwhelmingly positive, encouraging, and gracious to our workers.
We prepared in advance, requested assistance, and were joined by crews from as far away as Jamestown and
Salamanca, New York, who worked tirelessly as though it were their own backyard. Smartly and with resolve, the
crews quickly restored power to as many as 4,200 customers; and within only 12 hours from the worst of Irene, the
power was back on and humming for nearly everyone.
Along the way, we again had a front-row seat to the pride, compassion, and resilience of the residents of Freeport.
We saw many of you whose lives were totally disrupted by Irene selflessly reach out to take care of your neighbors,
and to share food as well as heartfelt words of encouragement with our line crews and other emergency responders in
the field.
To our customers, employees, outside crews, state and local officials, and emergency responders, words cannot ex-press
our deepest thanks and appreciation for your cooperation, support, and patience.
We say it after every storm, but it never gets old—Freeport Electric is proud to serve the residents of this great
community.
