Capt. DeAVitt C. Barrett, tor rfmny years one of the best knows Ma cap¬ tains of Cold Spring Hattior died on Sunday at Bailors' Snug Hartior. He had been at Snug Harbor fifteen years. He waa 87 years old.
Capt. Barrett mils bom at Cold Spring Harbor, the son of Artemus and Olive Barrett. From eariy boyhood his was a seagoing life. Ho commanded some five coasting vessol.s. '
He married twice, his first wife being Mlas 8u.san Bunce. Ijitor he married Ml.ss Almeta Oildersleeve, who died about 80 years ago. He i.s survived by one son, DeWitt, who Is on one of tbo tank steamers of the Standard Oil Com¬ pany, and one daughter, Mrs. Mabel Walton of Hempstead.
Opt. Barrett wa.s a life member of Jephtha Lodge, 491, F. & A. M., of Huntington, having been ralstxl on March 8. 1S69. The funeral seriices were held at the chapel at Sailors' Snug Harbor thi.s morning, after Which the body was bmughll to the Huntington Rural Cemetery for interment.
