Mary Beth Ianno of 16 Lee Drive, South Farmingdale, an eighth
grade student at St. Kilian's R. C. School, won a third place plaque
in an Americanism slogan contest held by the Massapeuqa VFW
Post 7277. She is being presented with the award by John Ray
of Farmingdale, New York State Department Commander and by
Robert B. Clifford, Past Post Commander and Contest chairman,
who is also a Farmingdale resident. Mary Beth is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. John Ianno. Her winning slogan was, " Fight the Red,
or wind up dead!" There were over 1,500 entries. Alice Stuart,
a student from Seaford, won first prize with the slogan, " Communism
is a cancer, Democracy is the answer."

writing letters to the servicemen through an article which appeared
in the OBSERVER at the request of the Farmingdale Vietnam Assistance
Committee, who are sending needed supplies to the war
stricken children in South Vietnam.
