Daler Coach Optimistic
Coaches Invited
To Clinic
The Oyster Bay Town Department
of Recreation will hold
baseball clinics for all coaches
of youth organizations in the
town on Tuesday, April 2, from
8 p. m. to 10 p. m. at the Harry
B. Thompson High School, Syosset,
and the Plainedge Fligh School
in Plainedge.
Mike Castagnola, the Syosset
varsity coach, will conduct the
Syosset clinic and George Wul-pern
will handle the Plainedge
clinic.
The clinics will stress techniques
and skills used in teaching
the youngsters the finer points
of playing baseball.

Farmingdale High School baseball
coach Joseph Ruggiero, a
pitcher on the Daler team in
1952- 53, said that if the injury
to pitcher Glenn Marshall responds
to treatment, his team
will improve over last year's
fourth place league finish.
Marshall, along with returning
letterman pitcher Harvey
Beckwith would give the Dalers
a good one- two twirling staff.
Other returning lettermen include
hard- hitting catcher Jim
Dinelli, shortstop Vinnie Car-bone,
who hit over .400 last
year, outfielder Jim Karcher and
second baseman Bill Kenney.
Farmingdale, which finished
with an overall 10- 11 record
last year will play three games
this coming week. On Wednesday
they will journey to Plain-view,
followed by a Thursday
home game with Massapequa and
a Friday home game with Plain-view.
All games begin at 4: 00 p. m.
County Public Works Commissioner
Herbert J. Sim ins announced
the scheduling of two
lifeguard examinations at the
Westbury High School Swimming
Pool, Post Avenue and Jericho
Turnpike, Westbury, onSaturday,
April 13 at 10 a. m. and Wednesday,
April 17 at 9 a. m.
Applicants must have reached
their eighteenth birthday before
June 15, 1968 and must have their
medical certification from the
Department of Health. Medical
Examination forms needed for
this certification may be secured
from the Department of Health
or from the County's Division of
Recreation Office at the Salisbury
Club, Salisbury Park, East
Meadow.
Positions are open to both male
and female applicants. Persons
who successfully pass the Lifeguard
Examination will be selected
for appointment as lifeguards
at the swimming pools and
beach facilities to be operated
by the County during the Summer
of 1968. Additional information

Coach Wulpern Has Hopes
Of Fine Baseball Season

coach George Wulpern thinks he
might have the best outfield in
the North Shore Division I league.
Returning lettermen Joseph
Chairmonte, Donald Zebrak and
Thomas Cusmano, all hit and
throw well.
Other lettermen who make
Wulpern optimistic are catcher
Carl Amendola, pitchers Ed
Byrne and Dennis Russak and
hard- hitting shortstop John
Spier.
Sophomore first baseman
Donald Perkins and LaSalle Academy
transfer Steve Heckman a
second baseman are making
strong bids as regulars.
The Red Devils face four non-league
encounters this coming
week. On Monday and Tuesday
they will clash with Bethpage on
a home and away basis. AThrus-day
away game is listed at Oyster
Bay followed by a Friday home
game with Island Trees. All
games are slated for 4: 00 p. m.
Herricks will be the Plainedge
first league opponent on Tuesday,
April 9 at Plainedge.

races, Steve McLoughlin a leading
contender in the 440, Barry
Goldwasser and Mike Maguire
to lead the way in the sprints
and Bill Bura, Ken Golden
strengthening the quarter mile
spot. The recent strong showing
of Bruce Cross in- the 880
along with Tom Wright, Joe Danielle
and a sophomore Bill Heas-ney,
augurs well for the Chiefs
while Bruce Sentoff, a young
freshman holds promise in the
distance events. Tom Fitzgib-bon,
Joe Ganun, Marc Nurik, and
Bob Goldstein have come on
strong in the quarter mile.
Bill Zapf, a pleasant surprise,
has already done better than 20
feet in the long jump and has
strengthend the relay team as
has sophomore John Wulf as long
and triple jumper.
In the weight events sophomore
Jim Maggi, Junior Cliff Grohs
and Senior Ben Giaclone all had
well.
