PHARMACY
FOOT NOTES
by David Budoff & Sol Elbaum,
Reg. Phs.
We are in the midst of a medical
revolution. The fuse was
lit about 20 years ago with
the introduction of the so- called
wonder drugs. Since then r e verberations
have been heard
in every branch of medicine
including, pediatrics, ophtal-mology,
psychiatry, surgery
gerontology, and dentistry.
Where it will all end, no one
can say. But one thing is certain;
The Biblical " three score
and ten" which U. S. citizens
reached in average life expectancy
only a few years ago is
no longer a valid goal. Today
scientists are setting their
sights on the magic figure of
100. And, barring self- destruction
with nuclear bombs or
worse, it's a good bet we'll
approach or reach this goal
by the end of the 20th century!
Our health is better protected
with the advancement of drugs.
