22. He will be presented an honorary
doctoral degree and deliver

VAC Slates Valentine's Day
Military Bridge Benefit
The Vietnam Assistance Committee
of Farmingdale will hold
a Valentines Day Military Bridge
on Wednesday, February 14 at
8: 30 p. m. at the Knights of Columbus
Hall, Farmingdale.
President Alton Lamphere
urges residents to treat their
Valentines to an evening of fun
and prizes and adds that a
knowledge of card playing is
not necessary in order to play
Military Bridge.
Tickets are priced at $ 1.50
per person and may be purchased
that evening at the door. The
proceeds of this project will
be used to purchase and mail
articles to the men of the 4th
Batallion, 9th Infantry Manchu,
25th Infantry Division, the
United States Army unit of
servicemen in Vietnam, adopted
by the citizens of Farmingdale.

Two CAP Cadets Selected For King
And Queen Competition
Two students from Farming-dale
High School, members of
Nassau Composite Squadron V,
Civil Air Patrol, have been
elected by their fellow cadets to
represent the Squadron at the
Seventh Annual Cadet Ball
planned for Saturday, February
10th. The cadets, Ann Rosenbrock
and Jerry Lanni will compete
against representatives from 20
other Long Island Group C. A. P.
Squadrons for the title of " King
and Queen" of the dance.
The annual ball, sponsored
by Nassau Composite Squadron in
Seaford, will be held at the Son's
of Italy Hall. Attendance is not
limited to Civil Air Patrol
members.

A discussion on the proposed
1968- 69 budget will highlight the
next meeting of the Farmingdale
Youth Council which will take
place on Tuesday, February 13,
at 8: 30 p. m. at Village Hall.
The proposed 1968- 69 budget
will be discussed. All interested
residents are urged to attend.
The Farmingdale Youth Board
will honor Big Brothers and Big
Sisters at its third annual Youth
Board dinner, Wednesday, February
21, at 7: 30 p. m. at the
Steak Pub.

Pauline DeVine Passes On
William Penn, High School
Student Passes On
Pauline DeVine of Huntington
Station, formerly a Farmingdale
resident passed on on Sunday.
She is survived by her children,
Mrs. Margaret Grube,
Owen, Robert, Mrs. Pauline Pel-legrino
and Mrs. Muriel McLear
and by 15 grandchildren.
Religious services were held
on Wednesday at the Arthur F.
White Funeral Home with the Rev.
Bernhardt Bohrer of St. Luke's
Lutheran Church officiating.
William Antonio Perm, 16 years
of age, who was a member of the
11th grade at the Farmingdale
Senior High School and a resident
of 85 Monroe Street, Amityville
passed on last Saturday.
The well liked young man had
come from the Dominican Republic
18 months ago and was making
an outstanding adjustment to anew
environment and a different language,
according to the faculty at
the high school. " He set an example
for many students."
He is survived by his mother
and a sister Anna in the 12th
grade. Mass was said at Our
Lady of Lourdes R. C. Church
in Massapequa Park. Many students
and faculty attended the
funeral.

Mass In Group
St. Kilian Holy Name will attend
the 8: 15 a. m. Mass this
Sunday in a group in the new
School Auditorium. The men will
assemble in the school lobby
prior to the service.
On Monday evening the group
will sponsor a Father and Daughter
Night. Entertainment will be
furnished by the Holy Name Players.
Refreshment will be served
and prizes will be awarded to the
Fathers' Valentine Partners. The
event will begin at 8: 30 p. m.
and will be held in the old School
Auditorium.

Committee Chairman of
the Nassau Suffolk School Boards
Association and Farmingdale
Board of Education Trustee and
Thomas Lavan, representing the
District 22 Board of Education
went to Albany on Wednesday to
present their views to the legislative
budget hearing.
They both urged that the legislature
approve a $ 800 per pupil
ceiling for aid. Weathers stated,
" A $ 66 per pupil increase in
the operating aid ceiling Lorn
$ 660 to $ 726 will no more meet
our needs this year than a dime
will get you a ride on the subway,
or get you a loaf of bread, or a
quart of milk, or even a Sunday
newspaper." Weathers continued,
" Such an inadequate increase
would have a restrictive effect
on our educational programs,
would bring unwarranted tension
to already difficult staff salary
negotiations and would add again
to the already overloaded local
tax burden."
Weathers emphasized that the
State's strong, broad, ability-to-
pay tax base was far more
equitable than the local property
tax.
