their Annual Blue and Gold Dinner

Awards were presented to the

Shircore, Chris Marino, Peter

Robert Graziano, Bear Badges to
Roy Paiva; Webelos Awards to
John Allen, Scholarship, Engineer,
and Artist; James Stuart,
S p o r t s m a n ; James Graziano,
Sportsman; James Conneely, athlete.
Inducted into the Webelos
were Kevin Johnston and Steve
Sterbenz.
Cubmaster Ronald C. Shircore
complimented the Pack on its
growth since the last Blue and
Gold Dinner.
Last year the Pack had only
two dens and 15 boys while presently
they have five dens, a
Webelos Den and 36 boys.
The highlight of the Dinner was
the performance of Red Thunder
Cloud, a Catawba Indian, with
Princess Pretty Pony and her
daughter Dancing Butterfly. They
danced, spoke of Indian customs,
and played games with those
present.
The Anniversary Cake was donated
by Mr. and Mrs. Peter
Verdeccia, owners of the New
Farmingdale Bakery.

Ginsberg Sees Need For
Commuters' Watchdog
Assemblyman Martin Ginsberg
this week said the Long Island
Rail Road's request for a 10-
cent- per- mile fare hike points
up the need for his proposal that
a Commuter's Watchdog Committee
be established to oversee
all aspects of the line's operation.
" The announcement by the
Long Island Railroad that it has
asked the Metropolitan Transportation
Authority for permission
to raise fares, " Ginsberg
said, " makes establishment of a
watchdog committee imperative
and timely. The fact that the MT A
will act as both judge and jury as
to whether a fare hike is needed,
is added proof of the onesidedness
of the present operation."
Ginsberg noted that the LIRR
seemed to be adding insult to injury
by announcing the proposed
fare hike just one; week after the
MTA had announced grandoise
plans for vast futwre expansions
and improvements to the railroad.
According to Ginsberg, his
proposed watchdog committee
would have seven members from
Nassau and Suffolk counties, who
would be paid for meetings actually
attended. Two members
would represent the commuter,

Philip Burden of 37 Kent Street,
South Farmingdale, passed away
on Sunday. He is survived by his
wife, Lillian and his daughters,
Marie Reinbold, Ellen Capic-chioni,
Philip J r . and foster son,
John Lachowicz. He is also survived
by eight grandchildren and
a sister, Helen Stacom and a
brother, Harry Burden.
A Requiem Mass was held on
Wednesday at St. Kilian's R. C.
Church. Interment followed at
Mount Olivet Cemetery at Mas-peth.

commuter. Until such a committee
or a similar one is established,
I see no reason at all for
a fare increase. It is not warranted
now nor in the foreseeable
future."

Mary Schlienz, age 66, of 29

passed away on Monday.
She is survived by her husband

In Junior League Contest
Miss Barbara Vohs, of 58 Colonial

dress contest, by creating and
sewing a dress and coat ensemble.
Miss Vohs, a senior at
Farmingdale Senior High School,
will pursue a career in fashion
in September at the Fashion Institute
