Allen Agency Celebrates
25th Year In Business
Way back in 1943, Wharton B.
Allen, along with his brother,
Ellsworth " Doc" Allen, formed
an Insurance Agency in a one
room office at 309 Main Street,
Farmingdale. Since that time the
firm has grown considerably and
is now headed by " Pete" Allen,
who joined the firm in 1953 after
graduating from Hobart College.
Pete is an active member of
the Farmingdale Village Planning
Board as well as a member of the
Planning Development Committee
of The Town of Oyster Bay.
Thirteen years ago, his father,
Wharton B. Allen and Joe Gazza
pioneered what was to become
one of the largest industrial complexes
on Long Island, on Route
# 110 in East Farmingdale.
" Doc" Allen, Pete's uncle, has
been Chairman of the Board of the
South Farmingdale Water District
for the past 20 years. He is
also Secretary to The Board of
Appeals in the Town of Oyster
Bay.

Prepare For Farmingdale World
Children's Day
Plans for Farmingdale's World
Children's Day are now being
formulated by Mrs. PatriciaSch-riro,
Coordinator and her committee.
A month long program of education
about UNICEF and the
principle of Brotherhood will
begin this Sunday, February 18,
when the children will go " door-to-
door" collecting funds for the
less fortunate of the world.
Many churches, the Farming-dale
Public Library and community
organizations are helping
to coordinate this program.
On Saturday, there will be two
showings of films in honor of the
community brotherhood efforts,
at 10: 30 A. M. and 2: 30 P. M. in
the South Branch of the Farmingdale
Public Library.
Last year's collectionamount-ed
to $ 829,10 potential of 7,000
children.

" The annual " Bon Voyage"
Dance, sponsored by the Farmingdale

73.0% of area voters answered
" yes", 22.2% " no" and4.8% were
undecided.
Other figures released this,
week by Robert Paton, manager
of North America's South Farmingdale
office, show that area
voters strongly favor the proposed
bill which would create a
Federal- State- Local trusteeship
to preserve the marshes and
shoreline of Long Island: 88.8%
in favor 11.1% against and .1%
undecided.
On the question of whether John
Lindsay is doing a good job as
mayor, 68.2% felt he is, 23.8%
do not and 8.0% weren't saying.
41.2% of the voters believe that
mediation and collective bargaining
procedures available to all
public employees under the Taylor
Act are adequate, 46.0% feel
they are inadequate and 12.8%
apparently weren't interested.

Auxiliary Entertains Patients;
Seek Clothing
The Ladies Auxiliary of Tal-bonard
American L e g i o n Post
449, Farmingdale held a dinner
and party for one ward of young
men at Kings Park State Hospital
last week. The boys were
entertained by a puppeteer and
were then shown how to make
their own hand puppets.
The Ladies Auxiliary is seeking
donations of clothes and other
items for boys ages 7 to 16. Those

Mrs. Doris Plumy, professional children's photographer, is
shown with an exhibit of her works. She will lecture on the subject
of photographing children in the gallery of the South Farmingdale
Branch Library on Tuesday, February 20th at 8: 00 P. M.

Reservists Offered Points Toward
Retirement in CAP Program

A new expanded program offering
Air Force Reservists in
communities across the nation an
opportunity to earn points toward
retirement begins immediately
throughout Civil Air Patrol, it
has been revealed to the Observer
by Major Jay Schleich-korn,
Information Officer, Nassau
Composite Squadron V, CAP,
Farmingdale.
According to the latest information
released by USAF- CAP
Headquarters, reservists are being
sought because of their leadership
potentials and ability to
serve their community.
Under the program approved
by the Air Force and Continental
Air Command, the number
of reservists working annually
with CAP at all organizational
levels could increase from some
700 to several thousand.
The program will be administered
by reservists through
creation of the 9285th Reserve
Squadron ( CAP) which has been
assigned to the Air Personnel
Center, Denver, Colorado.
Reservists participating in the
CAP Assistance Program will be
eligible for CAP membership.
Jobs available to them include
helping to conduct aerospace
workshops for teachers and
school administrators, serving on
CAP Cadet Flying Encampments,
supervising cadets at week- long
helping conduct aerospace workshops
for teachers and school
administrators at 160 colleges
and universities across the nation,
serving on CAP Cadet Flying
Encampment staff, supervising
cadets at week- long orientation
courses held at various Air Force
bases and serving on staffs as
instructors in local units. In
this immediate area, the CAP
Squadron has units meeting in
Farmingdale and Bethpage. In
addition there are twenty other
units in the Long Island Group.

this new Air Force- CAPprogram
