One- of the most unusual double-headers
in the music business is
aimed at the patrons of the popular
Riviera, Port Washington,
Long Island. The event takes
nlace on Saturday evening, July
13th.
That night, direct from the
internationally famous Newport
Jazz Festival, comes Don Ellis
and his bright and exciting orchestra.
For two years the Ellis
band has blazed new trails
with its electric sound. It is
perhaps the most different and
outstanding big orchestra to
come along in years. The electronic
amplification in the brass
and reed sections makes the
Ellis concerts a complete rev-hy
ChriR Klesh, Entertainment Editor
elation for all listeners.
To complete the evening and
give diners and dancers a chance
to use the large waxed floor area
for dancing, Earl Hines, the great
modern jazz piano star, will bring
his orchestra in to accommodate
all the dance music requirements
for the evening. Hines has been
an influence in the business since
the early Thirties. To critics
and fans alike, he s in immortal.
That's the different and inviting
program for listening and
dancing on Saturday evening, July
13 - Don Ellis and his contemporary
sound and " Fatha" Hines
and his joyful, swinging dance
band.
The Riviera continues the same
price structure as has been in
effect all spring and early summer.
$ 9.50 to $ 13.00 for dinner,
and listeners and dancers who
want to be around just for the
music are obliged to pay only
a $ 5.00 music charge.
The live music policy at The
Riviera is continuing full blast
with an additional night set for
Friday evening, July 12th. That's
the evening that Bernie and
Mickey Mann, the hosts and owners
of the club, are bringing in
a special favorite of Nassau and
Suffolk County residents.
The well- known Marv Kurz
will front his 15- piece Steven
Scott Orchestra for a full evening
of lush, danceable music.
