Community Band Concerts
On Wednesday's At Berner
Due to a Iterations and additions
to the Massapequa High School
scheduled for this summer, the
site of the Massapequa Community
Band Concert series has been
changed to the quad area in front
of the Alfred G. Berner High
School. The concerts will be
presented on seven consecutive
Wednesday evenings, beginning
Wednesday, July 3 at 8: 30 p. m.,
under the direction of Adam Shaffer,
Jr. director of band at Berner
High School.
A varied program will feature
soloists, comTiunity singing, and
assorted selections. The public is
invited to bring folding chairs or
blankets as seating is not available.
In the event of inclement
weather the concerts will be
presented in the Berner auditorium.
The 80 member band will offer
a variety of presentations at the
Wednesday, July 3 concert,
The " Suite For Band" composed
by Robert Pearson a local

The featured soloist will be
Philip Streifer, a Berner graduate
now attending the Hart College
of Music of the University of
Hartford. The highly touted young
man will perform the difficult and
clever bassoon solo " My Grandfather's
Clock".
As a fitting tribute to our National
Holiday, the Fourth of July,
the program will conclude with a
stirring arrangement of George
M. Cohan's music entitled " The
Star Spangled Spectacular", introducing
such hits as " Mary's
A Grand Old Name", Give My
Regards to Broadway", " Your a
Grand Old Flag" and, " Yankee
Doodle Dandy".
Postmaster Leo J. Morgan recently awarded citations to three
employees of the Farmingdale Post Office for money saving suggestions.
Those receiving the certificates are 1. to r. - Carl
A. Dittmeier, Personnel Assistant; Daniel McGrath, Distribution
Clerk and Carl's brother, Robert, a Career Carrier.
Awards and appropriate cash prizes are in line with the Postmaster
General's program of paying employees for worthwhile
suggestions.
