Long Island Firm Gains
National Honors
Kitchen Originals Receives AIKD Award
fresh and new; but what about
good, old- fashioned responsibility?
The Better Business
Bureau confirmed no complaints
in the firm's four-year
history. " We want the
public to trust us, you. know,
This year's coveted Professional
Design Award was
unanimously presented to
one of our own hometown
firms, Kitchen Originals.
This national competition,
sponsored by the American
Institute of Kitchen Dealers
( AIKD) held its sixth annual
" Kitchen Showcase" at the
New York Coliseum, this
past December 4th through
the 6th. The Showcase,
America's largest kitchen
display and show, was attended
by hundreds of thousands
of homeowners, each
paying an admission charge
of two dollars.
The award was presented
to James Baloga, executive
design consultant of the
firm's large design and drafting
section, directly responsible
for all planning and
layout. " It's no more than
we'd do for any order we
received," said Baloga during
an interview, " if only
the public would take the time
to investigate the possibilities
of such a service. It costs
no more for anyone who requests
it. At our design
studios, we include it as an
integral part of each and
every job."
Fairy Tale Growth
In 1965, Kitchen Originals
began operations in a storefront
location at 562 Broadway,
Massapequa. " I can remember
when it. was all we
could do to find customers,"
continued Baloga, " but to
date, we've already installed
well over 600 kitchens.
Our advertising is basically
institutional, that is to say,
we're not trying to sell gimmicks
or give false impressions.
We have a customized
service to offer and I guess
this is what customers are
really interested in."
Kitchen Originals has two
design studios, one at 5300
Merrick Road, Massapequa,
and the other location at
962 Old Country Road, West-bury.
Twenty- one employees
comprise KO's staff, with
tremendous focus on their
own salaried installers. " We
use only licensed plumbers
and electricians that perform
all their services to code,"
he added, " Everyone who
works on a job is a specialist,
it's the only way to do it."
Robert Baloga, KO's southern
regional sales manager,
and George Vahamonde, who
manages the northern region,

displayed these two

" Showcase" presentation to

the New York Coliseum.
Exhibit Set
An exhibit of antique

years ago by American
craftsmen will be on dis

City Bank, 250 Conklin
Street, beginning Tuesday,

control. " Since we own our
own location, warehousing
facilities and delivery operations,
it makes our sales
job a whole lot easier. With
control like ours, we can
maintain consistency in every
custom job we deliver,"
they agreed.
Kitchens are their only
business. According to the
records, Kitchen Originals'
last fiscal year ended with
an astonishing half- million-dollar
sales volume, " with a
projected 45 per cent increase
during the next season."
" We wanted to try our
hand at manufacturing,"
James Baloga said, " but the
quality and pricing offered
by national firms cannot be
duplicated. They spend millions
on sophisticated machinery
and top- notch personnel;
they can offer a guarantee
no one can match."
Young and Active
We looked at some sketches
of the firm's future kitchen
ideas. Since all the employees
are young, ( the President is
only 29), we can understand
why all their designs are
