completed basic training at Ama-rillo
Air Force Base, Texas. He
has been assigned to the Air
Force Technical Training Center
at Keesler Air Force Base, Mississippi
for specialized schooling
as an administrative specialist.
Airman Layer, a 1967 graduate
of Half Hollow Hills High School,
attended State University of New
York at Farmingdale.

Richard J. Alimonte, 20, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Alimonte,
171 N. Walnut St., N.
Massapequa, was assigned to the
2nd Armored Division at Fort
Hood, Texas.

Airman Dennis M. Griffiths,
son of Mr. and Mrs. William J.
Griffiths of 10 Lenore Lane,
Farmingdale, has been graduated
from a United States Air Force
technical school at Sheppard Air
Force Base, Texas.
He was trained as an aircraft
mechanic and has been assigned
to a unit of the Military Airlift
Command at Dover Air Force
Base, Delaware.
The airman is a graduate of
Farmingdale Senior High School.

William J. Byrne Jr., whose
parents and wife, Marion, live
at 64 Westwood Road, S. Massapequa,
was promoted to Army
first lieutenant in Vietnam, where
he is serving with the 86th Engineer
Battalion.
Lt. Byrne, a communications
officer in the battalion's Headquarters
Company, entered the
Army in September 1966 and was
stationed at Fort George G.
Meade, Maryland, before arriving
in Vietnam last March.
The 21- year- old lieutenant
graduated from A. G. Berner High
School, Massapequa, in 1964, and
attended Memphis State University.

Army Private First Class Gary
E. Gentile, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Dominick Gentile, 59 Martin
Road, North Bethpage, recently
arrived with his unit in Vietnam.
His unit, from the 5th Infantry
Division at Ft. Carson, Colorado,
is Company A, 1st Battalion
of the 11th Infantry.
A rifleman in the unit, Pvt.
Gentile entered the Army in November
1966 and completed basic
training at Ft. Jackson, S. C.
The 22- year- old private,
whose wife, Ronni, live at 30
Brookline Drive, North Massapequa,
N. Y., is a 1963 graduate
of Plainedge High School. He
attended Nassau Community College,
and was employed by K & K
Labs, Plainview, before he entered
the Army.

Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas A. Unterstein,

Massapequa Park, a student at
Niagara University, is attending
Army Reserve Officers' Training
Corps summer camp at m-diantown

Cadet Unterstein is a member
of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity,
and a 1965 graduate of St. Pius
X Preparatory Seminary at Un-iondale,
New York.

a student at Hofstra University,
is attending Army Reserve Officers'
Training Corps summer
camp. The course is being held

Upon successful cpmpletion of

from college, he is eligible to

lieutenant in the U. S. Army.

Upsilon Gamma Alpha fraternity,
and a 1965 graduate of Massapequa
High School.

as " Willing Water Week" in the Town of Oyster Bay Is presented
by Supervisor Michael N. Petito ( right) to Harry Borley, Vice

completed his first six weeks
training at Officer Candidate
School at the Marine Base, Quan-tico,
Virginia, as a member of
the Platoon Leaders Class program.
The program, designed especially
for college students, leads
to a commission as a second
lieutenant in the Marine Corps
Reserve upon completion of two
six- week or one ten week combined
training period at Quanti-co
and graduation from college.
Candidate McDonough is a junior
at University of Dayton, will
return to Quantico after commissioning
for a 21 week Basic Officer
Course prior to assignment
to one of the posts and stations
the Marine Corps maintains.

School, New York City, in its
summer class.
The school, which is now operating
on a quarter system, will
begin its next class on September
23.
Miss Baffa is the daughter of

Program of The Dow Chemical
