Stay In School Race
Incumbent trustees Mary Motta
and Irving Kleinman joined
trustee Robert W. Mackreth in
seeking reelection to the District
18 Board of Education.
Mackreth who last week announced
he will seek reelection
will be opposed by Herbert Goldstein.
Kleinman will vie with
Dominic J. Gagliardo and Mary
Motta will be challenged by Edith
Booth and Michael Lanzarone.
Library Board Trustee Richard
Wynn has no opposition.
BOARD'S REZONING DECISION

he said, does not have the cafeteria or library
facilities to accommodate over- crowding, which
would be inexcusable with extra space at Berner.
However, students now in Massapequa High School
would remain there through their graduation.
Primary opposition came from
parents who felt that their children
would lose interest in
school. According to these
parents, the distance would make
it difficult to attend school functions
and for students who miss
their buses to walk home. They
stated that a switch in zoning
would be a great disappointment
to Parkside students who had
earned blue and gold ( the colors
of Massapequa High School)
numerals and letters to be required
to attend Berner. Another
complainant expressed concern
that extra money would be needed
for buses to transport students.
Ames, explained that the increase
of funds allotted in the
budget was due to the added
cost of bussing parochial school
students and had nothing at all
to do with the re- districting.
In reference to a petition submitted
by Tony Curso protesting
the plan which had been signed
by 1300 persons, Ames said,
" We had to make a decision.
We tried to make the best possible
decision for the benefit
of everybody."
The tax- payers also demanded
a more efficient method of
" getting the message to the
people" regarding school board
decisions. Ames agreed that a
notice or letter rather than the
ordinary " Insight" and newspaper
stories would be needed.
The meeting, which started at
8: 30 p. m. proceeded smoothly
until the re- zoning matter was
brought up. Everything in the
agenda was approved, and Morris
Brewer, head of the Art Education
program, presented a report
about his department's curriculum.
An inquiry was also made about
the Massapequa Teachers' Association's
complaints regarding
salaries, and it was announced
that Dr. Harold A. Beall, Superintendent
of Schools, would meet
the following morning with representatives
of the Classroom
Teachers Association and the
American Federation of Teachers
to discuss the problem. The
CTA feels " that the new ( 1967-
1968) salary schedule will
place Massapequa in the bottom
quarter of Nassau County."
In response to a question
whether the board would change
the boundary lines, a poll of
the Board showed that they would
not reverse their decision. Comments
from the floor demonstrated
that some of the petitioners
had changed their original
position; however, these few
appeared to be a minority.

District 22 Elections
Set for Saturday
For those who are not registered
for the Annual Meeting and
election of School District # 22 to
be held on Tuesday, May 2 and
Wednesday May 3 for voting on
the school, library and Youth
Council budgets andfor members
of the Board of Education and the
Board of Trustees of the Far-mingdale
Public Library, a second
registration day will be held
on Saturday, April22from 10a. m.
to 10 p. m. at the Weldon E. How-itt
Jr. High School gymnasium. A
registration day was held on Wednesday.
Those who registered at the Annual
Meeting and Election held
on May 3 and May 4, 1966 do not
have to re- register nor do those
who registered on November 9 or
November 12, 1966 or those who
voted at the May 1966 Annual E-lection
or voted at the Special
District meeting on May 19,1966.
A candidates forum sponsored
by the P- TA will be held on Thursday,
April 27, at 8: 30 p. m. in the
Howitt Auditorium.
A regular meeting of the District
# 22 Board of Education will
be held on- Monday, May 1 in the
Howitt Auditorium.
To Perform In Festival
Nearly 3,000 young musicians
from Farmingdale, Massapequa,
Kings Park, and East Meadow
Schools will participate in the
Contest- Festival sponsored by
the New York State School Music
Association at Berner High
School on Friday and Saturday,
April 21 and 22.
Eighteen bands and orchestras
and seventeen choruses will appear
for statewide audition during
these two days. Outstanding
adjudicators from areas beyond
the Long Island area will audition
these major performing organizations
and will offer ratings of
performance as well as suggestions
for improvement.

The regular monthly meeting
of the St. Kilian Mothers' Club

School. Highlights of the evening

12th birthday with a party with
eight girl friends, her brother

watching Debbie blow out the

Former Farmingdale High
School baseball captain Jimmy
Sybil has won the starting cen-terfield
position atC. W. Post College.
Sybil was impressive during
pre- season practice with sharp
hitting and excellent fielding and
gained the first- team nod.
The 20- year old junior was an
All Nassau County selection at
Farmingdale High School from
where he graduated in 1964. He
also won letters in football, basketball
and track for the Dalers.
At C. W. Post, Sybil is a flanker
on the varsity football team as
well as a baseball standout. He
lives at 5 Cheryl Lane East in
Farmingdale.
