a stable tax rate during the past
two years. Her leadership was
especially evident in the development
of die improved morale
which characterizes bom the professional
and non- professional
staff in District # 22," according
to fellow board member, A.
Terry Weathers.
Lucille Goulding has been a
resident of die Massapequa Park
section of die Fa rmingdale School
District for die past 11 years,
She is the mother of four children
ranging in age from two to
20 all of whom have attended, are'
attending or will attend die local
public schools. She is former
PTA president and Heart Fund
Chairman.
While Mrs. Goulding has always
demonstrated her independency
and non- partisanship while a
member of the board, according
to die announcement, she has endorsed
the candidacy of her
fellow- trustee A. Terry Weadiers
for reelection.
Mrs. Goulding stated: " My
main objective in seeking reelection
is to reaffirm to die people
of the community my dedication to
good education for ALL children.
I strongly believe diat this must
be the primary concern of any
school board member."
" She has won the admiration
and die respect of her fellow board
members for her quiet but firm
leadership, an open- minded and
fair approach to all issues, and
the time she has made available
in fulfilling her responsibilities
as president of die board," according
to trustee Weadiers.
" Mrs. Goulding has been cited
for her understanding of die needs
of the district's educational program
and die problems of die
community under our present inequitable
tax structure forced
upon us by outmoded state laws
which mandate diat education be
directly financed by die homeowner,"
Weadiers added.
" Among the many accomplishments
of Lucille Goulding's
past tiiree years of die school
board were her leadership in die
successful high school building
program and die completion as
scheduled of the Weldon E. How-itt
Jr. High School West
Building," Weadiers concluded.

How does the funeral service
serve the living?
A reverent and dignified funeral service is the last act of
devotion we can offer the physical remains of our loved
ones. A properly conducted funeral is a comfort to the bereaved
in that it is a final expression of their love, it
helps them adjust to the reality of their loss and i t provides
an environment in which friends and relatives can
offer re- assurance they are not alone in their grief.

Frank Gelish,
Urges ' Yes '
Vote on
May 3rd on
School District
Budget
Frank Gelish, candidate for
School Board District # 22 urged
all residents to approve die School
Budget on May 3d. " A negative
vote will not effect any real savings,"
he said. " In fact, any additional
vote diat might be necessary
will cost die District about
$ 3,000 each."
The candidate, a resident, noted
that more tiian 85 per cent of die
East Farmingdale budget, including
professional salaries and
raises, are no longer subject to
change. " We should not be
fooled by those who advocate a
negative vote as a meaningful
protest," he said. " It isn't,
frhese people realize how costly
any repeated vote on die same
issue can be and despite their
cries of economy diey endorse
this unnecessary expense. The
time to be heard is during die
early months of die school year
when die administration is making
its initial plans for die future.
It would be wrong to deny
our children any of die advantages
offered to diem by our
schools." He went on to say
that we should not be swayed
by die few who would have us
believe diat dramatic savings
at this date are possible.
" However, we should raise
our voices in protest — in a
concerted protest against die
actions of die State Legislature.
They have mandated tremendous
increases into all school budgets
and left each District to pay the
bills. There has been a failure
on die part of die State not only
with respect to additional funds
for education, but diey have failed
to arrive at a just and equitable
mediod of dividing die proceeds
from die lotteries. The
Mayor of New York City has
demonstrated how effective an
effort directed toward the Legislature
can be. Now it is our
turn to be heard. This is an
area in which the local taxpayer
can find a meaningful and
proper tax relief diat is not at
the expense of our children."
