mund A. Ocker, of Plainview.
The New York Board of Fire
Underwriters, Electrical Di-.
vision, has assigned to the Town's
office at 65 Broadway, Hicks-ville,
a representative each
Tuesday morning from 9: 30 to
10: 30 o'clock to meet with homeowners
having electrical installation
problems. Those who cannot
go to the office in person may
call and talk to the representative
by telephone. The number is 822-
1270. The Town Board, on motion
of Councilman Ocker unanimously
approved making office
and desk space available to the
representatives.
The accommodation to home-wners
was brought about by
the complex forms which must
filled out. They are no problem
to professional electricians
but they are a maze to most
lomeowners. And the problem
becomes pressing when the
homeowner finds out that a certificate
of occupancy will not, under
law, be issued unless a certificate
of approval is issued by the
Fire Underwriters organization.
Until now, homeowners have
had difficulty communicating with
the Board's offices in New York
City or its inspectors in the field,
to solve an installation or certificate
problem. The representative
assigned under the new
program will be an electrical
inspector, He will try to help
the homeowner to insure that an
acceptable job is done and that
the application is correctly filled
out. The service will also
assist electrical contractors
working in the Town.
Councilman Ocker said, " This
additional service to homeowners
has been brought about by the
work of the Town Building Department
and its Manager,
Edward J. Gaynor. They have
spent a great deal of time and effort
in bringing about this service
to the people and I feel
that it will be a huge success
and will be appreciated by homeowners
who will be involved."
