Park Drive, Massapequa, took
part in an amphibious assault
near the " demilitarized one"
which divides North and South
Vietnam, while serving aboard
the command ship USS St. Paul.

Mr. and Mrs. Stephen W. Hamlyn
of 122 E. Shore Drive, Massapequa,
has been promoted at
Keesler Air Force Base, Mississippi,
to airman second class
in the United States Air Force.
Airman Hamlyn, a 1% 2 graduate
of Massapequa High School,
attended the University of Buffalo
and the University of Minnesota
at Minneapolis.

J. Graulich, USN, son of

is in the Mediterranean
aboard the attack aircraft carrier
USS Saratoga.

Seaman Frank W. Searles Jr.
USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank
Searles of 156 Division Ave.,
Massapequa, N. Y., took part in
the amphibious assault of the
" demilitarized zone" which divides
North and South Vietnam,
while serving aboard the amphibious
transport dock ship USS
Ogden.
The search and destroy mission
named " Operation Hickory,"
was a multi- unit offensive
into the " DMZ" just south of
the Ben Hai River. His ship
helped put a special landing force
of U. S. Marines, complete with
tanks, weapons and ammunition
into the area. The Marines were
landed by small boats, as well
as by helicopters.
While " Hickory" was underway
pilots from U. S. aircraft
carriers in the South China Sea
and the Gulf of Tonkin flew air
strikes over the area, and attacked
targets as indicated by the
ground forces ashore.

of Mrs. Rose M. Ciavatta of 25
Colonial Drive, Farmingdale, has
been selected for training at
Chanute Air Force Base, Illinois,
as an Air Force aircraft equipment
repairman.
Airman Ciavatta. who attended
Farmingdale High School, recently
completed basic training
at Amarillo.

Kelly is a 1962 graduate of
Farmingdale High School and atj
tended New York Agricultural
and Technical Institute in Farmingdale.
Before entering the
Army he was employed by Crest-wood
Electronics in Merrick.
