District 22
The Board of Education of
School District 22 held a curriculum
meeting on Monday with
Michael Tartamella of the High
School making a report on Health
Education.
He pointed up the physical eduction
interrelationship with
Health Education. Tartamella
stated that the program in Health
Education had begun long before
die recent upsurge of newspaper
articles concerning die problem
of teenage addition on Long Island.
A formal course in health
was begun last year. Until dien it
was on a voluntary basis. The
course in now taught five days
a week to 125 students, most of
which are 12th graders, widi
some lldi graders also in die
course.
He suggested more teachers
for die course so diat
675 seniors out of a class of
800 would have die opportunity
to take die course. The report
stressed diat biology should be a
prerequisite for the course.

Notice is hereby given diat sealed
bids will be received by die
undersigned at the Headquarters
Firehouse on Broadway and Albany
Ave., North Massapequa,
N. Y. at 8300 P. M. prevailing
time on die 3rd day of April,
1967, at which time diey will
be publicly opened and read,
for die purchase by Nortii Massapequa
Fire District of approximately
twelve thousand gallons
of # 2 fuel oil for delivery to
and consumption at Station 1
and 2 of die said district for
domestic heating purposes, or
ordered from time to time.
Notice is hereby given diat die
foregoing quantity is approximate
only, being based upon past experience
of die District, is furnished
only as a guide to bidders
to die requirements of die District
over a one- year period,
that bids should be made on a
unit price basis on die basis of
" barge price" as well as showing
die gross amount for die
above quantity. The Board of
Fire Commissioners reserves
die right to order less than
die total quantity shown above,
and to increase die amount by
twenty percentum at the rate
of bid during a period of one
year from die date of award
of a contract. The Board also
reserves die right to reject any
or all bids, and to award a bid
to the person, firm or corporation
whose bid it deems to be
in die best interest of die District.
In order to assure die District
of prompt fulfillment of its requirements,
all bidders must
show die location and capacity
of its storage facilities, and this
factor shall be taken into account
by die Board of Commissioners
in determining the successful
bid regardless of die amount
bid. If die successful bidder shall
fail or refuse to comply widi
any order for delivery witiiin
twenty- four hours after placement
thereof, such bidder will
be held liable for any loss or
damage suffered by die District
as a result of such failure or
refusal.
Bidders are notified that they
are to submit nun - collusive bidding
certificates along with their
bids.

The board passed a resolution
establishing dates for die coming
annual school district elections
and budget vote: Wednesday,
May 3, from 9 a. m. to 9 p. m.

in the four election districts:
# 1, Massapequa High School; # 2,
McKenna Junior High School; # 3,
R. J. Lockhart School; # 4, Fairfield
School. Registration for new
voters will be held in die four
election districts on Wednesday,
April 26, 9 to 9. The school

April 19, 8: 30 p. m. at die Massapequa
High School. Copies of
die budget will be distributed
prior to die budget meeting.)
The Board resolved to place die
following propositions on die annual
vote: School and Public Library
Budgets, election of school
board members to fill two three-year
terms ( present incumbents,
J. Lewis Ames and John D.
Woodward) and for die unexpired
term ending June 30, L969, previously
held by LawrcnceNeus. se.
Also election of a Trustee to
die Library Board for a term
of five years, present incumbent
Philip '".. Robinson. And a proposition
calling for approval of
a bond issue in an amount yet
to be determined, for the construction
of additions to the
Massapequa High School and for
renovations to Parkside Junior

District 18
Assemblyman Martin Ginsberg
and Francis P. McCloskey spoke
at the Plainedge Board of Education
meeting last Thursday
and spoke on school tax relief.
They slated they would bodi do
all they can in Albany, especially
regarding the unusually high
tax rate in Plainedge. Specific
legislation had been introduced
by Ginsberg in order to alleviate
die Plainedge plight.
Each spoke in favor of the
50% tax reduction of people over
65 who earn $ 3,000 per year
or less. They stated that die
decision should be left up to the
school board.
A Humanities Course was added
to the curriculum on die
11th grade level.
Michael Grenis was appointed
administrative intern for die
balance of the year. He will
work at the Schwarting school
and take die place of Richard
Burbell, who was appointed
Project Coordinator at a previous
meeting
Establish Mark Lustig
Memorial Scholarship Fund
A Mark Lustig Memorial
Scholarship Fund was established
by students of the Massapequa
High School National Honor Society.
Lustig, a senior and Iresident
of the High School Honor Society,
passed away recently.
Funds are now being solicited
on a community- wide basis
to establish a perpetual scholarship
in his honor.
Checks should be made payable
to the Mark Lustig Memorial
Scholarship Fund, care of Mrs.
Eleanor Rossiter, National Honor
Society Advisor, Massapequa
High School.
