School Board Changes Attendance Boundaries
Reflecting shifts in school-grade
assignments, the Massapequa
Board of Education has
changed attendance boundaries
which will affect 9th through
12th grade students at the district's
two high schools next
year, it was announced today
by J. Lewis Ames, President
Massapequa Board of Education.
" Next year," said Ames, " we
are instituting a 6- 2- 4attendance
plan in Massapequa, the first
six grades in the elementary
schools, grades 7 and 8 in the
junior high schools, ( Park-side
and McKenna) and a full
four year program, grades 9
through 12, in the two high
schools, ( Massapequa and Ber-ner).
This change will provide
not only a better educational
program, but will bring about
some relief of critical overcrowding
at the secondary level."
The new attendance boundary
for Berner High School has been
extended westward from the
Massapequa State Park to include
all that area east of the
center line of Hicksville Road
and north of Sunrise Highway.
( See attached map.)
All students in this area shall
receive bus transportation to
Berner High School. Berner, presently
housing 2741 students and
with a rated capacity of 2084
students, now includes 7th
through 12th grades. With the
move next year of 7th and 8th
graders to one of the Junior
High Schools and the addition
of 9th grade students from the
newly added Hicksville Road to
Massapequa State Park area, the
attendance at Berner will be
2567. Massapequa High School,
with a present enrollment of
" L o o k well to the spine for
the cause of d i s e a s e " , was
the admonition 2„ 000 years
ago of Hippocrates, the
father of healing.
In 1895, chiropractic
was founded by Daniel
David Palmer, who recognized
that spinal vertebrae
could become misaligned
and sub luxated, and interfere
with normal function
of the nervous. system. This
discovery led to an entirely
new field of research into
the spinal column and nervous
system. A new health
science of spinal analysis
YOUR HEALTH

and adjusting was founded.
In 1904, the first x- rays
were taken of the human
spine for the purpose of
ascertaining vertebral misalignment
and subluxation.
Since that time significant
advances in the science of
chiropractic have been
made.
Research and development
of better analytical
methods and continued educational
advancements
have established chiropractic
as the largest nonmedical
health profession
in the world.
2290 an*, a rated capacity of 1859
will have an attendance next year
of 2489.
Ames explained that all students
who will enter next year's
10th, llth or 12th grades, " r e gardless
of how they are affected
by the new boundaries,
will continue to attend their present
high school through graduation."
The board is studying plans
for expansions and renovations to
Parkside Junior High School and
to Massapequa High School which Decisions on the projected build-will
relieve the district's over- ing plan, costs, and voting dates
crowding on the secondary level, * r e expected in the near future.
