Ground Breaking
For New Synagogue
Ground breaking ceremonies
for the new Synagogue of the
Earmingdale Jewish Center at
Fulton Street, Cobb Place and
Prospect Street will be held Sunday
March 12 at 11 a. m. it was
announced by Jack Tenen, President
of the Center.
The occasion will be marked
by a special service and activities
led by various congregants.
Harry Schneidkraut, senior Honorary
Trustee will conduct a preliminary
service at 10 a. m. followed
by the program in which the
Junior and Senior member choir
will participate. Joseph Stern,
Building Program Coordinator,
will lead the members in r e sponsive
readings. Jack Zeldin,
Chairman of the Building Committee
will turn the first load of
earth with a bulldozer.
The new building will be built
by Luna Construction as designed
by Architects Scheiner and Swit
of Massapequa.
Dorothy H. Follett Passes On
Dorothy H. Follett of Farming-dale
passed away suddenly on
Monday at Mid Island Hospital
a short time after she was admitted.
The deceased is survived by
her husband, Dr. W. Ellory Follett,
one son, Barry and diree
grandchildren, Bruce M., Tracy
Dee and Elizabeth Follett and
her sister, Norma Kern and her
brother Mortimer
Mrs. Follett was a member
of the Farmingdale's Women's
Club and a member of die Idle-hour
Tennis Club.
The funeral will take place
on Thursday at 2 p. m. from die
Arthur White Funeral Home. The
Rev. Kenneth Hoover, pastor of
the Farmingdale Methodist
Church will officiate. Interment
will be at the Long Island National
Cemetery.
Captain Arthur L. Miller, Jr., of 140 Hillside Road, a Chief
Pilot with American Airlines, is shown pinning the wings on
his daughter, Ellen, at her graduation from the American Airlines
Stewardess College in Fort Worth, Texas. Ellen, a 1964
graduate of Farmingdale High School and Katherine Gibbs Secretarial
School, 1966, will be based in New York.

County Executive Eugene H. Nickerson ( right) presents Certificate of

intently, Swartz's alert action in notifying Farmingdale volunteer firemen
of a gas main leak at the intersection of Fulton Street and Merritt Road in
Farmingdale. On Monday evening, January 30th at 10: 45 p. m. Swartz was
riding home when he noticed the snapped gas imain andd immediately alerted
volunteer firemen by telephone. The firemen quickly began to evacuate
residents in the area from their homes, which covered a seven-block-
square radius.
New Appointee At Post Office JosePh Peistrup,
George J. Brown, former Assistant
Superintendent of Mails
at Syosset, was named Superintendent
of mails in Farming-dale.
Brown replaces George W.
Leonard who retired in December
1965.
Brown served in the United
States Army in the European
theater and was discharged with
the rank of Staff Sergeant on
September 29, 1945.
ARMED FORCES
John J. Cloos, son of Mrs.
John J. Cloos of 22 Ivy St.,
Farmingdale, has been commissioned
a second lieutenant in the
United States Air Force upon
graduation from Officer Training
School at Lackland Air Force
Base/ Texas.
Lieutenant Cloos is being a s signed
to Laredo Air Force Base,
Texas, for training and duty.
He will be in the Air Training
Command which operates the
technical school system to train
personnel for Air Force duty.
The lieutenant, a 1962 graduate
of St. John's Preparatory School,
Brooklyn, received his B. S. degree
in accounting in 1966 from
Fordham University, New York.

Airman Allan C. Benner, son
of Mr. and Mrs. William L.
Benner of 15 Lenore Lane, Farmingdale,
has been selected for
technical training at Chanute Air
Force Base, Illinois as a United
States Air Force aircraft equipment
mechanic.
The airman recently completed
basic training at Amarillo Air
Force Base, Texas. His new
school is part of the Air Train-;
' ing Command which conducts
hundreds of specialized courses
' to provide the technically trained
personnel for the nation's aerospace
force.
Airman Benner is a 1966 graduate
of Farmingdale Senior High
School.

Private Jeanette Golff, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence
Golff, 2 Madison St., Farming-dafe,
completed eight weeks of
basic training at the Women's
Army Corps Center, Ft. McClel-lan.
Alabama.
She received instruction in
Army history and traditions, administrative
procedures, military
justice, first aid and field
training.
Former Resident
Joseph Peistrup, long a resident
of Farmingdale passedaway
suddenly in Tulsa Oklahoma last
week. He was formerly a resident
of 2 Hamilton Street, Farmingdale
and moved away five
years ago. He was head of the
Credit Department of the Shell
Oil Company.
Peistrup is survived by a
daughter Jean, who lives in Tulsa,
Oklahoma.
Walter Seligman, of 18 Holly
Street, Farmingdale, a long time
friend of Peistrup, had just
visited him five days ago in
Oklahoma. Seligman said, " His
passing will be keenly felt by
his many Farmingdale friends."
