Town Readies Tree Planting Program
The Town of Oyster Bay will
continue a program this year
to beautify its roadsides with
shade trees, according to Councilman
Edward J. Poulos, Town
Board Majority Leader.
He said that. Public Works
Commissioner H. John Plock,
Jr. had recommended and the
Board has authorized two shipment
of trees, one this spring
and another in the fall.
Bids will be received at Town
Hall for the first shipment of
700 trees on Wednesday, March
8. Bids will also be received
at that time for 75 bales of
Babe Ruth, Connie Mack
Registrations Coming Up
Massapequa and American
Babe Ruth baseball registration
will be held on Saturday morning,
March 11 from 10 a. m. to 1
p. m. at Fairfield school.
All boys aged 13- 15 years,
living west of Park Blvd., and
between Suffolk Avenue and die
Great South Bay, in School District
23 are eligible.
Registration fee is $ 5.00.
Connie Mack registration will
be held Saturday, March 18 from
2 to 4 p. m. at Unqua Road school
for young men 16 to 19 years of
age.

Mods, Penquins Advance To Finals
The Mods advanced to the playoff
finals in the Massapequa
Teenage cage league, but not
before a hard fought struggle
as they defeated the Celtics 31-
28 in the last 30 seconds of the
game. Joe DeVincent scored the
decisive three point play. Billy
Arnold led the losers with 12
points.
The Dandelions were eliminated
from the losers bracket by
dropping a 38- 31 decision to
the Penquins. Kevin Dowd scored
16 points to lead the winners.
The Penquins advanced to the
finals of the losers bracket by
defeating the Clodhoppers 37- 20.
They play the Celtics next week
for the right to challenge the
Mods for the Playoff Championship.
Jim Goodman was high
scorer for the winners with 10
points. Tom Banks had 12 points
to lead the losers.
