Hold Registration For Youth
Council Summer Program
Registration for the summer
recreation program of the Far-mingdale
Youth Council will begin
on Thursday, June 29th and
will be held from 1 to 4 and
Friday, June 30th from 9 to
12 noon for children in School
District 22 at the school center
each plans to attend.
The Main Street School Playground
will be reopened for the
summer program. The program
will be under the leadership of
Mr. Vincent Giordano. Al Barks
will head the MerritRd. program
at the Town Parklet. Walt Brem
will be in charge of Albany Ave.
School recreation center. John
Phocas will hold forth at East
Memorial. Herb Friedman will
serve at Town Florgate playground.
Mr. Owen Schell again
performs at Mill Lane. Messers
Dick Vining, Larry Nicosia, Bob
Hartranft, and Bob Conrod will
supervise at Northside, Parkway
Oaks, Woodward Parkway Schools
respectively and the Pine-hurst
Road parklet. Bob Mulligan
will again be in charge of
the High School Program.
A Pre- School will be conducted
again at Woodward Parkway,
Parkway Oaks, and Albany Ave.
for children who will be attending
Kindergarten next year. Added
this year will be a pre- school
program at Main St. School.
The Swimming Program under
the leadership of Bill Annis will
run an eight week program. Each
class session will run for two
weeks. Classes are scheduled
daily for definite periods and
are limited to 50 per class.
Registration must first be completed
at the local playground
or center.
The program will include quiet
games, sports, movies, dramatics,
crafts and special events
to highlight every week. The
program opens on Wednesday,
July 5th and ends on August
11th. Donald Snyder will again
direct the entire program with
assistance from Mr. Jack
Kiriluk. Be sure to register for
a summer of fun.
Banberger Selected For CAP Glider Course
Another honor has been brought
to the Nassau Composite
Squadron V, Civil Air Patrol
with the announcement that Cadet
Steven Banberger of 181 North
Wyoming Avenue, North Massa-pequa,
has been selected to attend
the Private Pilot Glider
Course at the 1967 Civil Air
Patrol Cadet Flying Encampment.
Steven, a Cadet Captain
in the Farmingdale flight, is
also a senior at Farmingdale
Senior High School.
A member of the local unit
since October 1962, he has participated
in several special activities
such as encampments,
bivouacs and special courses.
The Private Pilot Glider
Course is a complete sailplane
training course directed toward
the attainment of a Private Pilot
Glider Certificate. The course
duration is two weeks and will
include ten hours flight instruction
and associated ground training.
Through arrangements made
by the National Civil Air Patrol,
the course will be given
by the Schwiezer Aircraft
Corporation in Elmira, New
York,
Capt. Irving Friedman, Squadron
Commander indicated there
are many types of glider and
power flight programs available
to C. A. P. cadets who qualify.
The program is open to students
between the ages of 13 to 18.
Burglars Steal Liquors
Edward Berkson, owner of a
liquor store at 918 - 05 S. Main
St., South Farmingdale, reported
to Eighth Precinct police that
two cases of liquor were stolen
from his place of business.
Burglars entered the adjoining
premises by cutting through the
roof and then broke through a
wall to enter the liquor store.
The liquor was later recovered
in an abandoned parked auto at
the rear of the premises.
The wife of the owner of the
car, a Nathan Goro of 3445 White
Plains Road, Bronx, told police
that the car was parked several
hours earlier on White Plains
Road. Eighth Precinct police said
that the auto had not been r e ported
stolen.

James Hanney, a ninth grade
pupil at Mill Lane Junior High
School, has been named first
place winner in the National Contest
sponsored by the American
Association of Teachers of
French. James won over approximately
18,000 students who
participated in the nationwide
contest on the French 11 level.
For his achievement, James
will receive a French Government
medal, courtesy of the
Services Culturels, Ambassade
de France, and M. Morot- Sir.
In addition to the medal, James
was also awarded a check for $ 50
by the American Association of
Teachers of French.
Last year, under the tutelage
of Mrs. Myra Van Nostrand,
James was a statewide winner on
the Level 1 competition. This
year, his training has been under
the direction of Mrs. Yvonne
Fritz.

( Airmobile) in Vietnam.
Pvt. Wiebe entered the Army
in December 1966 and was last
stationed at Ft. Jackson, S. C.
Wiebe is a 1966 graduate of
Farmingdale High School.

will attend Army Reserve Officers'
Training Corps summer
camp at Indiantown Gap Military
Reservation, Pa.

Interest On Town Funds
The Town Board authorized
Town Comptroller Joseph W.
Macedonio to deposit current
surplus funds for a period of 34
days.
The Board directed that$ 250,-
000, which is available, be deposited
in Certificates of Deposit
in the Long Island National
Bank at 5% per annum for the
period. Macedonio said that the
funds are not required for immediate
expenditure and will be
available when needed.
