Solicitors Must
Show Licenses
A license for ail door to door
salesman is required in Massapequa
Park, according to Village
Clerk James P." Brodbeck,
Before the license is issued, the
applicant must satisfy the Village
by affidavit that he is a
citizen; has never been convicted
of a felony or misdemeanor;
is a fit and desirable person and
is capable of properly conducting
the trade or occupation desired.
Complaints have been made
that some non licensed salesmen
have tried to promote their wares
and have been abusive to residents.
Brodbeck stated that sale-men
are required to produce their
license and failure to do so should
be reported to the Police Department.
Some thieves have
been known to use this approach
as a means- of determing neighborhood
habits, Brodbeck said.
Board To M ull Over Town
Beautification Program
Town' - Councilman Ralph
Diamond this week recommended
that the town board consider a
comprehensive beautification
program " that will improve the
attractiveness and safety of
streets without adding to the tax
burden."
Diamond, who was the special
counsel to the Town Board on
federal and state aid programs,
explained that a master beautification
plan is essential for the
town to be eligible for federal aid
for such beautification projects
as tree planting, malls, plazas
and landscaping.
He recommended mat a nonpartisan
Citizens Beautification
Commission, with members
serving non- salaried, be created
to: Set forth the scope and objectives
for a comprehensive
beautification plan; Consult with
all segments of the town to determine
local sentiment regarding
beautification of its area;
Prepare a three to five year
master beautification plan for
Town Board consideration and
recommend changes in existing
town ordinances which will
assure improved appearance
throughout the town.
Diamond pointed to the current
town tree- planting program
based on a " first come, first
served" basis as being inadequate
since it takes up to three
years to satisfy the requests and
doesn't conform to any long-range
beautification plan.
