Following a colorful parade
from Northside School to the
Weldon E. Howitt Jr. High School
athletic field last Sunday afternoon,
Mayor Joseph Zureck of
Farmingdale tossed out the first
ball to mark the beginning of
the Midget Football Season.
The over 1,000 fans present
were treated to a hard fought
game betwwen the Senior Hawks
and the Rosedale Jets in a game
which the Daler team won by a
24- 0 score.
The Hawks took an 8- 0 first
half lead when Larry Hill swept
left end for the first score followed
by a two point pass play
from Brian Pasley to Paul A-damo.
A Bob Seele passed to Huck
Finn made the score 14- 0 shortly
after the second half got underway.
The Hawks scored again on
a 16 yard scamper by Jim Dolan
followed by a safety engineered
by Marc Scardina who played a
fine defensive game. The slick
ouarterbacking of Brian Pasley
caught the eyes of the spectators
as did the running of Paul
Gabriel and the blocking of half
back Bob Seele.

Henry M. Curran, Town Supervisor
Michael N. Petito and Councilman
Ralph Marino, Frank
Hynes, Ralph Diamond and Mayor
Joseph Zureck were among those
present.
Lt. David J. Scott
Earns Bronze Star
Lieutenant David, J. Scott, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Scott
of Tudor Road, Farmingdale, r e cently
returned from Southeast
Asia where he was stationed for
one year. While in Southeast
Asia Lieutenant Scott was
awarded the Bronze Star with the
following citation:
" First Lieutenant David J.
Scott distinguished himself by
meritorious service as Weapons
Assignment Officer while engaged
in ground operations a-gainst
an opposing armed force
from 30 September 1966 to 1
July 1967. During this period,
Lieutenant Scott contributed significantly
to the offensive air
operations in Southeast Asia by
directing air- to- air refueling of
battle damaged aircraft in e-mergency
situations. The exemplary
leadership, personal endeavor,
and devotion to duty displayed
by LieutenantScott in this
responsible position reflect great
credit upon himself and the United
States Air Force."
Lt. Scott is a graduate of
Farmingdale High School and
Morris Harvey College, Charleston,
West Virginia.
William Hantusch, Former School
Board Member Passes On
William Hantusch, 86, of 20
Richard Street, Farmingdale, a
former member of the Board of
Trustees of School District 22
from 1954 to 1957, passed away
on Wednesday at Mid- Island Hos -
pita J where he had been a patient
for the past three weeks.
Hantusch, who moved he re from
Brooklyn 50 years ago was a
blacksmith and in later years was
engaged in the laundry business.
He was an organizer and first
Commander of the Nassau County
Council of Veterans of Foreign
Wars.
The Veterans Hall on Richard
Street was built by the deceased
as a meeting place for V. F. W.
meetings and also served over the
years as a place for local and
fraternal gatherings as well as
wedding receptions.
He held anHonorary Life Membership
on the Long Island National
Cemetery Memorial Committee
and was a charter member,
and past president of the Corporal
George F. Benhert V. F. W. Post.
He organized the V. F. W. fife,
drum and bugle corps and was
the drum major LOT over 25
years.
V. F. W. services will be held
on Sunday evening at 8: 00 p. m. at
the McCourt andTruddenFuneral
Home, followed by services by the
Long Island National Cemetery
Memorial Committee.
Services will be held on Monday
at 1: 00 p. m. at the funeral
home by the Rev. Albert H. Palmer
of the Episcopal Church, followed
by interment in Pinelawn.
The deceased is survived by
his wife, the former Anna Runge,
of Farmingdale and a daughter
Mrs. Henry J. Hauschild of Victoria,
Texas.
Fire Department Plans Drive
Plans are now underway for
for the Annual Subscription Drive
to be conducted by the Farming-dale
Volunteer Fire Department
of the Incorporated Village.
The tentative dates for the.
drive is the week October 15th
through October 22.
