Final registration for the Town
ice hockey leagues for youngsters
10- 18 will be held on Saturday,
October 28 at 10: 30 a. m. at the
Syosset Community Center.
Registration for ice- skating
schools will also be held on
Saturday, October 28 attheSyosset
and Massapequa rinks from
10- 11 a. m. and Bethpage's rink
from 2- 3 p. m.
A Face- Off Night will be held
on Monday, November 6 at 8: 30
p. m. at the Bethpage High School
auditorium to officially herald
the opening of the town's hockey
programs. A New York Ranger
player will be guest speaker and
a film of last year's Stanley Cup
Playoffs will be shown. Parents
and friends are invited to the free
activity.
Pequa Harriers Win Over Roosevelt
The Massapequa Cross Country
team met Roosevelt in an
away Cross Country meet last
Friday with the Chiefs victorious.
Brian McElroy was the
first place winner with a time
of 13 minutes 13 seconds. Massapequa
placed, 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6
in the meet. The Chiefs overall
record for the season now
stands at 8 wins 7 losses, with
a league record of 7 and 7.
Coach William O'Sullivan reports
that his harriers are preparing
for the South Shore run
offs.
Berner In Soccer Contention
The Bisons, by virtue of a.
1- 0 soccer win over Calhoun
remain in contention for the coming
South Shore Athletic League
playoffs. Richard Winter scored
in the first 40 seconds of play
with a direct free kick from 30
yards out. Jeff Raynor, Richard
Hanrahan, and Rick Winter were
outstanding on defense.
The Bisons next encounter is
against Hewlett High School on
Friday, October 30th.
Chiefs Lend League
In Soccer Play
The Massapequa Chiefs continue
leading South Shore Athletics
League Section I soccer
with a record of seven wins no
losses and one tie. In a game
played at Valley Stream Central
High School last Friday, the
Chiefs continued their winning
ways by defeating the Central
Booters by a score of 6- 1. Ken
Lee scored three goals with Mark
Taft, Arden Sterling, and Kevin
Cleere adding one apiece. The
league victory, along with last
Friday's 3- 2 win over Oceanside
places the Chiefs in a good position
for the coming p l a y o f f s.
Coach Seeley singled out Frank
Cavataio, the Chiefs' goalie for
outstanding play. Frank has
nine shutouts to his credit and
has allowed only three goals to
pass the nets for the entire
season.
Ken Lee and Mike Barrett are
the mainstays in the Chiefs'
attack.
Fesefeldt Heads
Armed Forces Family Night
At Village Hall
Families who have a member
serving in the Armed Forces are
invited to attend Armed Forces-
Family Night, to be held at Village
Hall, Massapequa Park, at
8: 00 p. m., on Wednesday, November
1st.
A Navy Chaplain will be present
as well as a representative
from each branch of the Armed
Forces and the Service to Military
Familes of te American
Red Cross. A discussion will be
held on how the young men and
women in the service adjust to
military life and what steps parents
and relatives should take in
helping them with any problems
that may arise.
Mrs. Clifford Knowles, Co-chairman
of the Massapequa
Branch of Red Cross reports
that local Branch members will
also be present and will serve
refreshments following the question
and answer discussions.

Hudadoff Serves On Music Panel
Igor Hudadoff, District Supervisor
of Music in the Farming-dale
Public Schools, served as
guest panelist at a meeting of the
South Zone New York State
Teachers Association Meeting.
Hudadoff spoke on the topic
" Improvement of the Instrumental
Program Through Sight
Reading Rather Than Rote
Teaching." The need for Ensemble
instruction and performance
on the Elementary and
Junior High School levels as well
as the Senior High School level
was discussed.

Dalers Pull Major Upset;
Red Devils Resume Action
Farmingdale High pulled off a
major football upset in North
Shore I league action by upsetting
a highly favored Syosset by a
score of 13- 7.
After a scoreless first period
Syosset scored on a 40 yard reverse
to take a 7- 0halftime lead.
A Daler score by Jim Licursi
was nullified by an offside pan-alty.

Don Donaldson threw a pass
to Tony Torio good for 40 yards
to put the ball on the one from
where halfback Jim Karcher
scored. A missed point after attempt
followed and the Dalers
trailed 7- 6.
With four minutes to go in the
game, Syosset kicked to the
Farmingdale ten. A Donaldson to
Torio pass, good for 35 yards,
highlighted a 90 yard march.
Steve Woodford then took it over
from the one to make it 13- 7
with less than a minute to go.
The play of Linebackers Joe
Ryan and Billy Waters and guard
Dan Colletti were largely responsible
for keeping Syosset
in their own territory during most
of the second half.
Coach Don Snyders eleven,
which now has a 1- 3 overall and
a 1- 2 league record, will play
host this Saturday to MacArthur
in a game slated for 1: 30 p. m.
Plainedge High with only a tie
in fourth games will have their
hands full this Saturday when they
journey to take on undefeated
Hicksville in a 1: 30 encounter.
Hicksville, one of the top teams
in Nassau County, is heavily
favored over Coach Gene Bonel-l

AAUW Learns About
Handicapped
The needs of the handicapped
and what is being done about it
here in Nassau County by the
March of Dimes, was the topic
of discussion as Edward R.
Yamin, Chairman of the South
Shore Chapter of the March of
Dimes, addressed a recent meeting
of the American Association
of University Women at the home
of Mrso Momjian, of Massapequa.
Yamin illustrated his talk with
a series of slides, developed especially
for Nassau County,
showing local March of Dimes
activities which include the support
of the Genetics Laboratory
at the North Shore Hospital, a
Swimming Program for the
Handicapped and local patient
care.

Park is Program Chairman
for the American Association
of University Women.
Early Thanksgiving
The Massapequa Senior Citizens
will celebrate an early
Thanksgiving on Wednesday, November
8 at a luncheon at Land's
End Inn. The choral group will
entertain.
Adult Education Exhibit
The annual Massapequa Adult
Education Exhibit will be held on
Wednesday evening, November 1,
from 7 to 10 P. M. in the cafeterias
of the Berner High School.
The exhibit is free to every adult.
The Berner Bisons continued
their victory habit by walloping
Mepham High School 40- 1, game
played at Mepham High School's
field, to remain on top of South
Shore Division TJ League play.
Scoring in every quarter, the
Bisons made short work of the
Mepham grid team. Dennis Quinn
started the touchdown derby with
an eight yard run early in the
first quarter. Second quarter
scores were added by Joe Denato
with a pass from Mike Capone.
Dennis Quinn scored on a six
yard run and was followed by a
screen pass from Capone to Tom
Hamm.
During the second half Mepham
was not able to generate any
offensive power and could not
contain Berner touchdown drives.
Tom Hamm scored on an eight
yard run, and in the last quarter
Steve A rata took off on a
34 yard run.
Berner now stands 4- 0, leading
the South Shore Section TJ
Athletic League conference. On
Saturday, the Bemerites will
travel to East Meadow to take
on Clarke High School in a non-league
encounter. Game time is
1: 30 p. m.
The Massapequa High School
football Chiefs remain in contention
for league honors by defeating
Uniondale High School by a
score of 27- 6. The home fans at
Uniondale saw little to cheer
about during the first half as
Massapequa's Mike Durham
scored early in the first quarter.
With an extra point completion by
Steve McLaughlin, the Luba men
controlled the play for the remainder
of the half and opened a
scoring drive early in the second
half with Brendan O'Neill hitting
pay dirt on a nine yard run. An
extra point conversion was added
by Steve McLaughlin. The last
quarter saw Mike Durham score
again and Jimmy Ambrosio take
a 40 yard scoring pass from
Glenn Lambert. On the extra
point play the Chiefs chose the
pass option with Ambrosio receiving
from Brendan O'Neill.
Durham had a field day with
twelve carried for a total of 65
yards and was assisted by Brendan
O'Neill who carried the ball
fourteen times for a total of
60 yards.
Next week the Chiefs travel
to Sewanhaka High School in
Floral Park for a league encounter
with game time slated
for 1: 30 p. m.
