Barbara Beierle, Winner Of Chamber Essay Contest Set Audition For Repertory Theatre
A 12 year old girl, Barbara
Beierle was the winner of the
best essay contest " What Community
Pride and Crime Prevention
Means to Me° sponsored
by the Massapequa Chamber of
Commerce. She is a student at
Fairfield school and the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony
Beirele of 344 Forest Avenue,
Massapequa. The presentation
was made at the program held
by the Massapequa Chamber of
Commerce at the Massapequa
High School.
Leonard W. Vencak was presented
with the Chamber Law
Enforcement award. A patrolman
in the Nassau County Police
helped in solving a burglary,
which resulted in the solution
of 50 other burglaries which had
been mysteries to the police
for some time.

WHEREAS, the maximum a-mount
proposed to be expended
as stated in the petition is the
sum of $ 15,000.00 and
WHEREAS, said petitions have
been duly filed with the Town
Board of the Town of Oyster
Bay, Nassau County, New York,
and have been duly approved in
writing by the Board of Water
Commissioners of the Massapequa
Water District in said
Town, for the construction of
lateral water mains, including
the necessary appurtenances, located
within the boundaries of
the said Water District, which
lateral water mains were not
described in any map or plan
which accompanied the petition
for the original establishment
of such Water District; and
WHEREAS, it appears that such
petitions have been duly signed
and acknowledged in the manner
required by Section 199 of the
Town Law; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Assessors
of the County of Nassau
has certified that the signatures
attached to the aforesaid petitions
represent an aggregate of more
than fifty per cent ( 50%) of the
ownership of the entire frontage
of the above described streets:
NOW, THEREFORE, WE, THE
undersigned, being a majority
of the members of the Town
Board of the Town of Oyster
Bay, Nassau County, New York,
pursuant to Section 199 of the
Town Law of the State of New

new Town Repertory Theatre to
prepare for such future productions
as " Alice in Wonderland"
and « « Cinderella » » this
fall, Ralph J. Marino, Majority
Leader, announced. Marino said
auditions will be held Saturday,
September 16, at 10 to 12 noon,
and Saturday, September 23
from 1 to 3 p. m., both at the
Syosset Woodbury Community
Park Community Center.
This newly formed actors'
group will tour the community
parks and also perform for nonprofit
organizations within the
Town. Marino added that these
young thespians create their own

Hues On Display At Jones Beach
Jones Beach State Park will
display a variety of garden chrysanthemums
during the fall
season from late September
through mid- November.
Thousands of colorful fall
hues have been placed in attractive
settings by types and varieties
along the walk leading from
Field 4 to the Central Mall Restaurant
area.
New introductions this season
include Golden Fantasy, Rosy
Nook, Autumn leaves, Gemini,
and the Fujii types.
The exhibit is expected to be
at peak bloom from October 7
through October 22.
Water Color Exhibit At Library
An exhibition of original water
colors painted by Brain Wild-smith
for the popular children's
work The Hare and The Tortoise,
and by J. Grabianski for
the juvenile book Cats and Horses
may be seen daily at the Massapequa
Public Library, at 40
Harbor Lane from 10 a. m. to
5 p. m. from September 14 td
October 4.
The exhibition has, been
brought to Massapequa directly
from showings in San Francisco
and New York City.
Cherwin To Work With Vista
Thomas Cherwin, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Jack Cherwin, 60 Block
Boulevard, Massapeaua Park,
was one of 37 T r a i n e es
who were graduated recently
from a VISTA training program
at Northeastern University in
Boston, Massachussetts.
As a Volunteer in Service to
America, Cherwin, 22, will spend
one year working with Mobilization
in New York City. Mobilization
is a city- wide agency that
sponsors a unique project in
legal aid for needy people, along
with other projects ranging from
child care to job retraining.
The legal- aid project is carried
out through a camper- like
trailer that tours the city, offering
legal aid to people who cannot
i afford a lawyer. Operating
mostly on the Lower East Side,
the trailer moves every week to
a new block in the slum area.
Staffing the law office on wheels
are VISTA Volunteers, including
Volunteers who are lawyers and
other Volunteers who assist the
lawyers.
Cherwin is a 1967 graduate of
the City College in New York,
where he received his B. A. degree
in English. He attended
Massapequa Park High School.
The Volunteer has worked as a
counselor at Camp Exton in
Staatsburg, N. Y., and as an
orderly at Montefiore Hospital
in the Bronx. While at City
College, he was a radio
announcer for WCCR, college
radio station.

Police Hold
Narcotics Seminar
Nassau Police Commissioner
Francis B. Looney announced
that county police will hold a
seminar on Narcotics in police
headquarters, Mineola, on
Thursday, September 21, at 10: 00
a. m.
All county police administrative
and command officers
will attend the seminar, and local
police chiefs and their assistants
have been invited to participate.
