ROOSEVELT
The Town Board ot ttae Town ^St Hempetead met and held a publlc hearing at Roosevelt on Friday even¬ ing last, on th« complaint of the tax¬ payers' committee, relative to the con¬ tract ot the Rooeevelt Water Power and Light Company with the Town Board. There was preaent on the Towd Board, Superviaor Hii^jn R. Smith, Justices Norton, Neo, Jones and Raislg, and Town Clerk Oiibert The taxpayers committee, at whose request the meeting was called con¬ sisted of Archibald Greensword, John Tuers, James Coward, C. Albers and Henry A. Morowitz.
Mr. Morowitz spoke principally, and laid before tbe town board the fact that there were certain changes or modifications to the water com¬ pany's contract with the Town Board tbat the committee desired for the beneflt ot the village. Among them was the question of keeping an emer¬ gency pressure tank in case of flre; of increasing the size of the flre noz¬ zles from one Inch to one and one- eighth inches; the flllng of a bond by tbe water company to properly repair the streets where the streets were opened by It; that the water company should blow OfT the dead ends once in each two weeks from April to No¬ vember of each year, and that in tbe laying of future mains, not more than thirteen hydrants to the mile should be added without the special consent of th^ Water commission.
Following Mr. Morowitz, all the members of the committee took part in the dlscuassion. Then, at the re¬ quest of the supervisor, Elvln N. Ed¬ wards ,as counsel for the water com¬ pany, explained the position of the water company and said the company wae perfectly willing to agree to the modlflcations to the contract wher¬ ever the same was not unfair to them as a business proposUlon.
It was quite evident that there had been much misunderstanding as to the position of the water company on the* part of some of the taxpayers prior to this meeting, which ended in a gel together policy on the part of those Interested.
