The Baldwin Flre Iiepartment, as- sisted by the Community League, will hold a grand carnival during the week of July I to H on South Grand avenue, opposite the flre hall. No pains are spared by the Individual members to make this the greateat event of Its kind that ha« ever been held on the south shore,
Twenty-si.x concessions (shows) will be on the grounds, besides a car¬ ousel (merry-go-round), but differ¬ ent and more enjoyable than the or¬ dinary kind, this bein;s; eiiuipped will) three horses abreast, each gal¬ loping constanlly, and music on al¬ together a more elaborate scale, mak¬ ing it attratclve not only to young people, but to the older ones as well.
The famous Howards, aerial bicy¬ cle riders, have been engaged and each evening, at I (L.'iO o'clock, Mrs. Howard will ride a bicycle on a wire at a height of 127, feet, witli her hus-^ band hanging underneath, featuring a performance not yet shown on Long Island.
The Fire Departnient has under¬ taken to bring tlte Baldwin service abreast of the times, and to do so if has incurred a large expense. The aim and object of this carnival is to provide funds to iiiotori/e hook and ladder number one. The departnient desires the good wishes of the cc; munity and the public in general, not only of Baldwin, buf of tlie surround- : Ing villages, ill a gfHul cause, that ofi providing more and hetter fire pro- i tection. The song and poem were especially written for this occasion and were very much appre¬ ciated. Miss Helen Acker. Miss Betty Johns and Miss Jennie Koch were the young ladies who assisted at the lemonade tables.
Last Thursday afternoon the chil¬ dren of cla.ss ,".B, of which Miss .\aomi Burch is the teacher, were all prepared for an outing iu the woods. On aocotint of the rain, the party was held in the kindergarten room, where games and the cake and sandwiches brought by the children were en¬ joyed.
