.Mineola Court House,
June 1,-|, in It;. The very ancient and unprofitable habit of impressing into .service gen¬ tlemen of more or less distinction for 'covering" National Conventions still persists in some of tlte New Vork newspaper offices. At their head for length of service in this particular Hort of employment was, of cour,se, William Jennings Bryan, The old gentleman conscientiously visited all the Chicago headtjiiarters daily for his "atmosphere" and his "news, " but it, cannot he truthfully waid that wliat little he gathered of both was par¬ ticularly interesting. Williatn Allen White was a newcomer tliis year, and was undoubtedly impressed into serv¬ ice because as editor of a Kansas newspaper (and a very good editor, too) and a «trong Bull .'Vloose, the in¬ side of the .Moose situation would be disclosed to hungry newspaper read¬ ers. Il is a painful but neverthless positive fact tliat editors are seldom good newHpaper men, and not one in a hundred is etjuipped to llil a good reporter's siioes. If we had relied upon these gentlemen for our con¬ vention dope, we should, indeed, have been poorly provided. Then, there was William Randolph Hearst, wlio fared him forth to Chicago neither as reporter nor editor, but rather in an advisory capacity to both the Re¬ publican and the Moose conventions. For all the instruction contained in the compositions wired by him to his "chain of newspapers." these miglit just as well have been written in Wil¬ liam street or on Riverside Drive and telegraph tolls have been saved. As you look over the work of these high- priced contributors, the more the im¬ pression is forced upon you that Na¬ tional Conventions are no more tit for editors than the streets of New York for the full fledged country jay. They're all right at liome hut nonde¬ scripts abroad, A few lirst class re¬ porters are tlie lads for these conven¬ tion job«, Tliat's the chief reason why the reports of Ihe Times and the Sun were ever so redolent of facts and so readjible. The circulation of these two old reliables invariably runs up some thousands daily during these (;uadreniiial conventions so conlident are newt^paper readers that they will get full, connected and intelligent re¬ ports of the proceedings.

From the Lynbrook .N'ew .¦Vlalverne News,
In another column of The New Era will he found Supervisor Smith's re¬ ply tf) his critics, regarding fees of his olfiee and other offices of the town. Instead of the $lH,O0n fees alleged, the Supervisor received about one half, and the other officials' fees on inspection drop about in the same proportion. And if he received twice the amount alleged, the Supervisor is getting only just what the law says he shall be allowed, and we be¬ lieve tiiat even his critics would not take les.s.
The fees that the Supervisor and tile other officials do receive may look large, but the Town f)f Hempstead Is an exceptional town. In most up¬ state counties a township tlie size of Hempstead would be divided into at least a half dozen towns with a sup¬ ervisor for each. The Hoards in these tip-state counties meet only once a year, transacting all tli(>ir business in a few weekti, whiie the Nassau Supervisors meet every wei-k.
The joh of being Supervisor of Hempstead is a hig one and It tak( s a big man to fill it: a man who ha,s the ability to conduct the affairs of th<' town (-ould oblaiti a liirge salary in any corpor.Ttion, Tlie Town of Hempstead has an assessed valuation of more than sixty-seven millions and th(^ Supervi,s()r of the town is the chief executive jjractically of CC,0(iO people. The Oovernor of a state or the Mayor of n city is an executive | ",','.",',"',1',', ofiicer of il large nuniber of people but he alwitvs Jias a large corps assistants paid out of the public funds, while the .¦^up|•rvi,-:or must hire his own lielp and iiay iIkmii. The fee system may be abused in some in¬ stances, but it is undoubtedly a fact if the fown had to furnish the help for the various duties of the Super¬ visor it would cost much more than at present.

26 Extra Features
This new-model Mitchell has 26 features not found in other Sixes.
Some of thern are costly. All are fhintjs ynu want. Each adds some convenience, beauty or strength which belongs to modern cars.
Come and see them. Judge for yourself if you want a car without them.
The After-Show Design
This is the oiily current mot^l completed after the New York Shows. It came out April 15. .
The design follows exactly the lines which were voted the handsomest at the Show.
The equipment includes all the best ideas which were brought out at the Show.
So this New Mitchell forms a show in itself. It is the most interesting car on exhibit.
This New Mitchell comes from a $5,000,000 factory, built and equipped by John W. Bate, the famous efficiency expert.
It shows what values can be given—what extras — through scientific factory economics.
It is the easiest-riding car in the world—the only car which has the Bate cantilever springs.
Come and see how much you get here which other Light Sixes lack. See the lighted tonneau, the reversible searchlights, the power tire pump, etc.
