Co., Freeporf.
tFr*m the Telephone Review, New Tork,| Con.siderable attention was paid by the Long Island newspapers and the New York dallies to a meeting In Mineola, which was held on January IC, 1915, and which was described In the Vantau Post ot January 21 as fol lows:
CountywPolica Syatem Devlaed by Tele¬ phone Manager Ryder. • "On January 16, 1915, at the Invltn tlon of Sheriff Pettit and District At¬ torney Smith, the Justice of the Peace, police Justices, constables, policemen, special offlcera. Deputy Sheriffs and vlllage presidents from the various towns In tbe county assembled in the room of the Board of Supervisors at Mineola, for the purpose of discussing and devising n hetter means toward th« detention •f criminals and the deter ring of crime in the County of Nassau, "Charles A. Uyder, local commercial manager of the New York Telepbone C:ompany, was present, and outlined a system of telephone communication between the principal villages of the connty and the jail, as a central ofllce. "Mr. Ryder discussed at Ienglh hin project, stntlng thnt by this system commnnlcatlon could be bad nt once with the points along any one certain route, or that fhe offlcer at the switch¬ board In the jail could, by making the proper connections, communicate with all points over all the various routes throughout the connty by one message: thereby giving information to all peacn offlcers throughout the eounty thnt a crime had been committed; that the criminal hnd departed from the point where the .crime was committed In a certain direction or toward other points of telephone commnnlcatlon.
"The criminal element of the larg« cities contiguous to the County of Nas¬ sau would Immediately learn of the police proiection thus afforded nnd seek other fields for their unlawful en¬ deavor.
"The system was unanimously ap- proved by the offlcers present and a resolution was drawn and generally signed, requesting the Board of Super¬ visors to consider the proposition and- provide ways and means of Installing this or some other adequate system."
On April 16 the county board of su¬ pervisors npproved a contract with tbe New York Telephone Company for s system, which subsequent experience has shown meets every requirement.

The Sheriff's offlce then gives one long ring for circuits B, C, and F, which brings In all the towns on the.se three circuits. Any road the speeders take mnst pass through one of these towns. Thus It will be seen that the roads In every direction are fully guarded.
But sujiposf' that or. a dark and stormy night a burglary hns been com¬ mitted, say iit Creat Neck, and the rob¬ bers bave made a clean get-away. One short ring will nolify the swilcbboanl in the Sheriff's offlce at Mineola, and

For anything that may happen re¬ quiring the attention of the police, whether It l>e a search for a lost child or a strayed animnl, an accident, or a crime, the Sheriff's system in Nas.sau County, which Is nuxillary to the cen¬ tra] offlce service of the New York Telephone Company, provides the mn.xl- mum of police protection at a minimum of expense.
