Bellmore, L. J., July 5- The entire day was devoted to a continual cele¬ bration here y<.s«erday, beginning at !>.30 in the morning. At that hour there was a flag raising near the de¬ pot, followed by a parade through the streets of the village. Congressman Frederick C, Hicks reviewed the pa¬ rade from a stand, and made a brief and appropriate address on the flag and what it stands for. Prior to Con- gresaman Hicks' address the Rev. }{. .M. Knight, of the Bellmore .M. i;. Church also spoke about the flag.
The parade wa.s led b» Peter John¬ son, grand marshal, accompanied hy Dr, H. R. Holcomb, dressed as George Washington. After them came .Mr. and .Mrs. Charles Wood, dressed as Incle Sam and .Miss Columbia. Then came a band and a company from the Tenth Infantry, followed by ^e .Mer¬ rick Home Guards, tbe Boy Scout's, and the firemen from the Bellmore and the .Merrick F^lre Companies. The school children came ntyct. and an au¬ tomobile parade closed a long proces¬ sion.
The .Mcrrictf firemen were awarded a prize for making fhe best appear¬ ance, and Thomas Valley won the prize for having the best appearing automobile.
