She is survived'' by tour ehiidren, Mrs John ' Merritt of Farmingdale. Misses Annie J. and Sarah K. and Frank 8., of Wantagh. The funeral was Held at the home Friday after¬ noon. Rev, Thomas 8. (By Special Correspondent.) Mrs. Oeorge P. Rohr gave birth to
a son on Thursday, July 8. The mother is doing as well as can be ex¬ pected. The youngster died soon af¬ ter birth.
The Japanese tea, which was held at the'home of Mrs. Charles E. Mills, was a decided success. The young ladies In Japanese costumes looked quiet oriental, and wailed on the visitors in a pleasing manner. Many lanterns and Japanese ornaments made the home look very protly. The souvenirs were greatly appre¬ ciated by all. A substantial sum was f^alized.
Mrs. George Wade and Mrs. Jo¬ sephine Steck spent the week-end at Amityville with .Mrs. Emma Bergen.
Committees have been appointed for the annual fair which will be held during the month of August. The fair will be held two nights and an entertainment will be given the last night.

The shirtwaist dance held one week ago Thuraday at the flre house, un¬ der the auspices of the running team of Alpha Hook and Ladder Company was most delightful as well as unique. Holders of tbe lucky numbers re¬ ceived orders from Katz department store; the ladles, a silk shirtwaist, the gentlemen, a silk shirt. A large number were present and a thorough¬ ly enjoyable time is reported. Music vvas furnished by Professor Mole.
The boys of the Alpha running team are mlghtly proud of their cap¬ tain, "Billy' Fields, as they call him.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Pearsall have returned from a week-end visit at the home of Mrs. Pearsall's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cheshire, at Riverhead.
What might have been a fatal run¬ away accident was narrowly averted last week by the courage of Al. Stew¬ art of this place, who dashed In thej centre of the highway, grabbing the | reins ot the horse and bring him to a stop. The horse had been frightened by the glare ot the trolley headlight and was galloping headlong down Main etreet. Mr. Stewart is in the employe of Uncle Sam, acting as mall carrier between Roosevelt and Free- port.
The Alpha running team are again out on the road practicing for the contests which will be held at One¬ onta, N. Y. They are sure to bring hack a prize. The state convention will be held there in August. It is expected that fully 30 members of the Roosevelt department will attend in a body.
