Formerly markets idr the buying of feathers were open daily in Cape prov¬ ince, but with the advent of the war there was ti complete cessation of trade exchange. It was only at the end of .lune of this year that merclmnts re opened the markets. In the week (uid ini; .Inly 7, M.iKio pounds were sold.
This was considered a record week, and it w.-is immed i.l tely followed by a trade slump, whh h resulted in the clos¬ ing (if the markets. They have since been opened only a few' days in each week, and the sales hare been sluggish.
