VITAL STATISTICS
A large number of representative citizens attended a meeting on Wed¬ nesday evenJng, April 10th, in Fire Hall No. 1, where it was determined to make the sale of Third Liberty Loan Bond* in the local district a speedy success. The meeting was held under the auspices of the local Loan Committee, and was called to order by Chairman J. W. L. Van Sicklen of the entertainment committee. The speakers of the evenin)); were M. Fel¬ tenstein of Freeport, a prominent lawyer from Manhattan; George E. Bradbrook of Rockville Centre, and Lieutenant Harold Bunker of the U. S. Naval Reserve Force, who is assigned to the Pelham Bay Naval Station as an instructor in naviga¬ tion.
An excellent chorus was given by the school children. The Home De¬ fense Unit and Boy Scouts were well represented. Lieutenant Col. John B. Christoffel presented medals to eight local Boy Scobts who made the high¬ est sales in the Second Liberty I^an. They were: Harry Croks, Harold Gunzenhauser, Robert Miller, George Cook, Howard Bartow, William Sten-
fel, Anthony Canini and Richard hamm. Two other Scouts entitled to receive medals but who were absent on account of sickness were: Earl Goodenough and Harry I.ieieh. The 'Scoutmaster, Charles A. Calkins, al¬ so received a medal. The troop an¬ niversary night will be held at the Parish House on April 29th, when the Scouts will be given a bannuet in hon¬ or of their troop work and drum and bugle corps.
