Take Initiative
In compliance with the request of twenty-five petitioning citizens of Kreeport, the Board of Trustees has called a special election for Tuesday, .May 4 from .1 P. M. to 7 P. M., at the Wxcelsior Hook and Ladder House on I'iue street, for ti.e purpose of voting 3U a proposition to spend |4,000 or as iiucli thereof as may be necessary -id. purchase a motor tractor to be used lU the transportation of the fire en -iuc to and from fires. The Board re eixtd the petition at ils meeting yes. eitiay. Trbstt.e Kandall offered a res¬ olution authorizing the i?Iet-tlon.
The pctiilou is the direct result of he action of the t-neine co'npany in ipliolnting a committee to inquire In he subject of motor tractors. This comniitiee In its invesiigatloiis consid- ¦red two types, t'lose with three and lOur wheels which cah readily be at- ach(;d to the aparatus without alter- .iig its fore part so as to preclude the ossibility of using horses and a two vlicel tractor tor the u.-^e of which the rui-k would have to he remodeled.
The committee madt? its report at ; :i;coting of the company on Tuts lay evening, and the members favored nn three or four wheel type. It was he cont.i-nsus of opinion that a relia- )le mt-aiis of ioconiotion for this im- lorlaut ijiece of fire apparatus wa:- lecossary at oiiit-, hecause of the un- ¦ertainty of obtaining liorses at thi^ ime of fires. It wa.s poinied out that .lie only available Iiorse i'or use on ho tnif-k were those of e.\-('hiof v_am- -rnn which tiro stahlod a considfrablt- lisliince from tne truck house to Ihe lortli of the lallroad and are not al vays in the village.
It was after a discuRsion of these rijiters that the petition was decided ipon. I'apera wert! drawn and before ihtirsday the necessary signaturt^s .vere obtained. The petition bears the lamos or the following:

South Side Baskct-Ball Again De¬ feats Hempstead
In tbe third game bf a series of four l>etween the fast basket ball team of the RoekvlIIe Centre Club and tbat of St. eGorge'B Club at Hempstead on Wednesday evening, the south side players again triumphed over the "plain birds." Tbe victory was the third consecutive win for "the wiz¬ ards." as the south side team is called by its admirers, and clearly establish¬ es a superiority over the St. George team.
'thus far the Hempstead players bave been blanked so far aa victories are concerned. The game Wednesday evening was not a wai.i-over for the south side players. Both eams put up a fast, clean game and the result, 2'3 to 25, was obtained only by clever work in tbe flnal moments of play by "The Wizards." Beatty starred in the basket work for Hempstead, while Ray Kennedy put up a remarkable defense for Rockville Centre, checking Smith, the ex-Wesleyan star, who played for¬ ward for Hempstead.
