The road beds under the specifica¬ tions was to be full sixteen feet. .Measurements at more than tifty dif¬ ferent points show, according to the testimony, lhat the contractors went on the twelve-foot basis.
After a day of such testimony show¬ ing utter indifference on the part of the men .who were taking the state's jjironey it wa* a graceful act of Justice Kapper to permit the jury lo attend a moving picture show. The jury cer¬ tainly needed some sort of ligh*. re¬ laxation.
Operated on for Adenoids. Miss Mabel Smith, of Freeport. was operated on yesterday afternoon by Dr. Boerum of Rockville Centre at her home in Olive building for adenoids. Miss Smith has been affected for some years by the lymphoid tissues, in breathing, speech and'hearing. It Is believed tbat the operation will be successful In restoring all the impair¬ ed functions.

To-morrow,if weather condilions are favorable, a^number of fishing clubs and individual anglers are expected to start the fishing season at Freeport, Wreck Lead, i^Jueenswater and Long Beach. Flounders are running at pres¬ ent and most of the fishermen will come out prepared for them.
Blackfish, one of the earliest of spring varieties that frequent the waters contiguous ' to New York and Long Island, are expected to appear soon. Market men in their Seabrighi dories have made their flrat catches off the Seventh Fathom banks and this w»ek fishermen with rod and line man anticipate that the flsh will be running In the vicinity of Freeport, Long Beach, Flre Island, and other places along L,ong Island's South Side. Blackfish like to cling lo wrecks where barnacles abound. The fall of the year is the best time for them, as they rud larger at that season. The spring specimens weigh from one pound up to sixteen pounds.
Blackfish bait on fiddlers, little neck clams, skimmers, soft clams, sheouer crabs, kl llies, mussels, sandwonr^s and blodworms. The fish are sometimes erratic In their appetites and several varieties of bait are frequently neces¬ sary to lure them. . The best tide is the flrst of the flood or the last of the ebb on which to catca them.
The best kind of hooks to use are the 4-0 to 7-0 Virginia "blackfish." Leaders are not necessary, but as the Ssh are bottom feeders, heavy sink¬ ers are necessary. Hooks should be tied close to the sinker, but not so. close a» to crowd it.
