ll U generally known that the (xcari fronlB at Coney Isliind and the Hotk aways have heen ^or tho past decade ret oris for the inullltideH of the (ireat- er ICty, and the fael that Lonj? Beat li and tho Uhik HtretcheM off lo the eani Tvard art last hecoinlng lh« plaj ground of kUII anoUier rnullltude. The IncreanInK popularity of this .section h» u »uiniiier resort speaks in aOlrina- tion of thiB jilatemenl.
It is worthy of notice that al East liockaway at lillie colony of cottaKP.s or bungalows have sprunK up wiihin the past two or three years, and the d«velopment of larger tracts to the eaHt indicate thai the movement ha.s heen to the east. At Baldwin the land hordering on the water has heen transformed. C'oltages have sprung up throughout the development of the Baldwin Harbor Uealty Company with about the rapidity of the spring flow¬ ers in the flelds.
And the beaches have become mec- cas tor the vacationist. All the oc«;an east from Jone's Inlet, which embraces Jones' Beach and .Short uBach, belongs respectively lo the town.ahips of Hempstead and Oyslei Bay. This stretch of hard while sand has been sparsely settled until receni years. Since the main land has be¬ come thickly settled the demand has increased for shore acres.
It is predicted that eventually Short. Beach and Jones' Beach will pass from the ownership of the lown^ of Oyster Bay and Uempstead inlo private hands, so strong is the demand for ocean front in southern Nassau County. The income to the townships fiom their ocean beach is practically nominal, wherea.s, if the fee were ownt'd privately, and the properly de¬ veloped, hundred of thousands of dol¬ lars would be added lo their assessed valuations. When the south side wa¬ terway Is built, all of this ocean front will be more a(^cessible.
