ICERRICK LUTHERAN CHtTRCH AND SE^VICIS.
St. John's Luiheran church, Mer¬ rick, Rev. WllUani Sleinhicker, pas¬ tor. Residence, Rockville centre, L,. i. {Phone 215-W.
I The opening service and Sunday I school session of this new underlak- I ing on the part of the fleld mlasionary jof the Lutheran church for Long Isl- land, took place under difficulties hut with marked success last Sunday af¬ ternoon. The building east of the Flre Hall in North Merrick was used. The school was organized with four grades Including an adult Bible class. The teachers were able at once to organ¬ ize their (lasses for work. Plans were made for the holding of a Christmas festal servile on Sunday afiernoon, , Dec. 27.
] The service which followed the ses¬ sion of thc school was surprisingly ,well attended. The Rev. A. C. Ka> ¦ kau, from Chrisi church, Freeport, and the choir of the church as well as others Interesled in the undertak¬ ing had come by train and autimobile. The choir hoth led the service and ren¬ dered several anthems. Pastor Kar¬ kau briefly addressed the congrega¬ tion, speaking words of encourage¬ ment and gave assurances of succesa.
This Sunday the Bible school will meet at the same place and lime. There wlll be no service. .Just as soon as other arrangements can be made the place of the meeting will be changed. It Is feared that the pres¬ enl place will bo too uncomfortable during the severe winter weather.
There will be a service a week from Sunday. This time and place will he announced next week.
We again urge all of the Luth'erati faith to co-operate with us. There In no doubt as to the success of the un¬ dertaking If all wlll do what tliey ran. Others without a church home are as¬ sured of a 'cordial welcome at all our meetings and services.
The Parish Aid Society will meet Thursday afternoon, Dec. 9, at the home of Mrs. Helnzling. Let every member endeavor lv. bring at least one olher member and thus assure an ex¬ ceptional attendance.
