CONGRESSIONAL CA-MPAIGN.
Before the Maine election, the Unit¬ ed States Senate was composed of flfty-slx Democrats and thirty-nine Republicans. The Republican tri¬ umph la Maine changed It to flfty- iHr five DemocralB and forty-one Repub¬ licans, in November, thirty-two sen¬ ators arc to be elected to fill tbe placea of seventeen Democrats and flfteen Republicans. To secure con¬ trol of the upper house of Congress, tbe Republicans must elect all of their fifteen candidates and take eigbt from the Democrats. Ttiis looks like a pretty hard taak, but Chairman Will¬ cox of the Republican National Com¬ mittee ia confident tliat it can be done.
The States bow represented by ttae fifteen Repubiioans are New Mexico, Minnesota, Wyoming, Delaware. Wis¬ consin, Rboide Island, Massactausetta, North Dakota, Connecticut, PeMlisyl- vania, Vermont. Washington. Utah. Michigan and California. In none of these States, Mr. Willcox declares, is there any doubt of the success of the Republican ticket. The states of Washington and Wyoming are consid¬ ered doubtful as to Seaatorshipa, but it is'lteUeved that the Republican na¬ tional ticket will pull the Republican senatorial candidates through.
