Judge .Niemann is e\idently awak¬ ening to th'; fact that this is not an auspicious year for IJemocratic can¬ didate's to I eek offle-e and is seized with dismay at the irresistible move¬ ment for -he election of Lewis J. Smith to succeed him. For more than a^month the Juijge has kept carefully e-one-ealed letters of endorsement from fiiiinetit members of the Judie-iary from other Counties; but now the Judge* realizes that it is time when he should not be "Km) proud to e-am¬ paign" and he is relying on the-se e-iidorseme-nts to help hiin oiii in .Nas¬ sau County,
Of course the Judge gets i-ndorse ui'-nts from his jiidie-ial friends in out- viele Counties; has he not been neigh¬ borly with them and they with him',' Where did all the fat appointments to sit on the Queens and Kings Coun¬ ty's benches come from if not from these good friends? Whenever any of these gentlemen needed a little va- e-ation they called on "Friend" .Nie¬ mann from Nassau and he not only ae-commodated them, hut drew down a nice plum himself in the way of additional salary. The salary of County Judge of Nassau is therefore not the only plum at stake for the Judge in this campaign. It not elect¬ ed Judge 'n Nassau he will not be e-iigilile to sit in other Counties, and the prospect of losing the extra fee he receives from this .source is cer¬ tainly annoying.
What more natural than that the Judge should appeal to these good friends to help him to retain his seat on the Nassau bench?
Now, on the other hand, what do the pe-ople cf Nassau care for these friendly endorsements? Nassau is paying a Judge- to be a .Itidge in their W'l C'i"t:iv anel is not interested lh fiirnii'hing eiindidate-s feir other Coun lies, T'.ie tiixpaye-rs and lawyers of .\a sail and are- not interested enough in ihe-e other e-ounties to have their Cminiy Judge set the terms of their County Couit at the same time as the Siipreinc Court, so that their County liidge will liiiM' less eases to try and iiore time lo gather in the extra fees by 1 i-ting in outside Counties.
Don't le-t these endorseme-nis of the Judicial friends of Judge Niemann have any inlluene-p in your vote -ae ions speak londi-r Ihan words and the former ac-fs of .lodge .Niemann in ellll iuoi ing to gtab the [ilai-e when ¦I'cr e'l-niiietenl I'leii wei'e on the '.I rch iM pioof of tie- iii'dne-e-rity of hi: p' e.ien' p'lsiti o: In s^ioniing ¦ l;ei |i an ;-> pei'ienciil .lii'lge on llu-
