Rev. Hugo Pohlman, of Merrick, preached in the Roosevelt Methodist Episcopal church last Sunday morn¬ ing, in the absence of the regular pas¬ tor, Rev. Edward O. Tree, who was away attending the New Yorjj con¬ ference.
The bail given last Friday evening at the Firemen's Hali. Roosevelt, by tlie running team of the Alpha Hook and Ladder Company, proved to 'be a huge sufces.s. and nuite a goou Ki'.m of money was realized. Chances were sold on a five dollar gold piece and prizes .given to tho.se securing the greatest numher of chances. Miss Grace Brown and Mrs. Clarence Chap¬ man received the prizes.
Fine music for the dancing was furnished by Bert Lytle's orcnestra. From I'J o'clock till 1 o'clock was an hour's intermission in the dancing, (luring which llmo volunteers told .stories, jokes, sang songs, gave fancy dancing, etc. There was a prize waltz in which five couples took part, and the prize was awarded to Miss Grace Brown and her partner. Dancing did not break up until early in the morn¬ ing. The proceeds are to go to the fund for sendin.? representatives to the annua] tournament of the Volun- teeer Firemen's Association.
