Willis A. Gibbons Re¬ ceives Signal Honor From Mr. Page.
W'illi.s A. (iihbons, who is popularly known in this village, especially by the yoinmcr .set, has won honors in I/indon. Word has just been received here of bis appointment by Ambassa¬ dor I'age as an attache of tbe Ameri- «'an PJmbassey, in Great IJritain. His wife and daughter are now with him, having joined him yesterday in Ixm- don. .Mr. Oibbons, who is under thiriy, has won his way to the tioni by perseverence, tinctured witb per- wmalily and ability.
As a student in the Flushing High School be stood head and shoulders j above many of hie class males and passed a.s Iioikm' iiiun in the giadti*- tion exercises. He then eiilcred W'es- lyan College, where after four more years of hard study be actjuitied him- Bolf crediiably again in the examina¬ tions. He was among Ibe most pop¬ ular meiiib<'i's of bis class, and at that time a great fulure was predicted for him.
His next achievement tn 'scholastic life was in his recent graduation frotn the Cornell I'niversity, where be qual¬ ified for the degree of do<-tor of science. When the Plattsburg Train¬ ing .School was opened, .Mr. (libbons joined, and in June, lltlfi. was made a eommiasioned offlcer. About that time he obiained a responsible position with tbe Cnited Slates Rubber Company a.s Its Ixjndon salesman.
Ahroad he met only tbe most prom¬ inent of Ixindon's merchants, and through high recommendation was ad¬ mitted into the best society. His friends were loyal, and when a va¬ cancy in the American Kmbassey wa.s announced Mr. Gibbons' name was miggested for the post. Ambassador Pago sfrnt for him and was greatly impressed with the manly bearing of the Froeport man.
Mr. Gibbons' parents live at 26 Roose¬ Telt Place. They are justly proud of their son, whose success abroad has been so eminently pro-eminent as to win him a post that will bring him in touch witb the loading memhers of tho British and American armiefl.
