The Energy Crunch
The next meeting of the Lyn-brook
Republican Club will be
devoted to "The Energy Crun-ch."
Robert Becker, Club
President, has announced that at
the February 6th meeting, to be
heldat8:30P.M. at the American
Legion Hall, Union Avenue,
Lynbrook, representatives of the
Christians

Abortion
On Wednesday, February 6,
from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. the
Reverend Walter Baepler will
conduct a discussion of some
Christian perspectives on
abortion at Grace Lutheran
Church, 400 Hempstead Avenue,
Malverne. All interested are
invited to attend.
Pastor Baepler is Associate
Secretary of Institutional
Chaplaincy and Clinical Pastoral
Education for the Lutheran
Council in the United States. In
his work with chaplains across
the nation Pastor Baepler finds
that despite the decision of the
Supreme Court which makes
abortion legal, unwanted
pregnancies still cause great
human suffering and soul -
searching.
Is abortion murder? Can it be
sanctioned if the health or life of
the pregnant woman is seriously
threatened? Can it be sanctioned
for other social, economic or
psychological reasons? Is the
sole decision the right of the
woman concerned?
Nearly all of us know a
member of the family or a friend
who has had to make this decision
even if we have not faced it
ourselves. God directs us to "love
one another," "bear one
another's burdens," "forgive
others as we expect God to
forgive us."
Lynbrook Board
Of Trustees Meeting O A . " By Annette Ling
Mayor Francis X. Becker has
been on vacation, so, Deputy
Mayor Bill Buzzeo did an ex-cellent
job chairing a busy
meeting held Monday, Jan. 22,
1974 at the Village Hall at 8:00
p.m.
After the Pledge of Allegiance
to the Flag, the Minutes of Dec.
17th Meeting were approved by
the Board.
Trustee Lawrence Florio
reported that tree trimming and
preparation for the installation of
our new type of street lighting in
Lynbrook was going ahead at a
steady pace.
Trustee Kurnt reported that the
tall superstructure on the top of
the old service station at Foster
Ave. which is used by the Long
Island Railroad was evidently
installed by Federal funds many
years ago and the Long Island
will clear it away or demolish it
as soon as they can obtain proper
authorization.
Trustee Bill O'Brien reported
that work was proceeding
satisfactorily on the new Liberty
Mutual parking field.
Deputy Mayor Buzzeo gave the
following Hints for saving fuel in
this energy crisis:
1. Limit the opening and closing
of doors.
2. Secure all storm windows.
3. Weather strip and caulk all
draft areas.
4. Make sure that there are not
hot water leaks.
5. Make sure that all radiators
are clear of furniture and rugs
which might stop the heat and
this will also insure maximum
heat.
The Mayor called for citizen
Volunteers to call into Village
Hall as Volunteers for the new
Lynbrook Environmental Council
of Lynbrook.
Fire Chief Pat Riccioppo gave
a good concise report on the Dec.
activities of the Lynbrook Fire
Dept. There were 178 ambulance
and rescue calls. Former Fire
Chief Domenick DeCarlo was
honored at a testimonial Dinner
as Fireman of the Year and the
Board added its own
congratulations. Dom has given
so many years to our Fire Dept.
Long Island Railroad passengers
stranded at Wright Ave. were
removed from the train, given
hot food and helped to other
transportation during the terrible
Dec. Ice Storm by the Fire Dept.
We also now have first class
Para-Medics, on our Rescue
Squad fully trained to deal with
any emergency such as a sudden
heart seizure. God Bless every
one of them.
Mr. Richard Koch gave an
excellent Library Report for Dec.
He is Chairman of the Library
Board and all the figures showed
that our library is in excellent
shape and doing very well under
the direction of our fine Library
Director. A call is hereby sent out
for good but used paper back
books which the Library can use
in its Out-reach program. They
