Ppogression in GirFs Gym Class
Progression was the keynote on
which the second session of girls
gymnastics was based.
Thoroughly introduced to the
uneven parallels, the balance
beam, the vaulting horse, and the
tumbling mats during the first
session, the girls were now ready
to move beyond the beginner's
stage.
Under the guidance of Mr. John
Koronakos, Teacher of Physical
Education, and his assistants
Ellen Coulon and Janet Mc-
Dougall, the gu'ls underwent
concentrated period of testing to
determine their status.
Most of the girls have ac-complished
their beginner's
skills and are looking forward to
the next gymnastic session for
advanced skills.
An added attraction during the
second session, and one that was
thoroughly enjoyed was in-struction
on the trampoline.
Approximately l(>0 elementary schmil students Irom the Kast ifockauay School district j<»ined
together on a recent Saturday morning and walked.'» miles for the March of Dimes. The Fast Httckaway
Mini Walk for Mini people was coordinated by Sarah VV'ipfler and her sorority sisters of Sigma Hho - ail
students at F^ast Hockaway High School.
"Young kids really like doing cra/.y things which they know will help less fortunate kids" said Sarah
I pictured standing in center with her March of Dimes lleadhand and Feather I All of the y(»ung children
started their long walk at one end of the High School track and had their walk cards validated by Sigma
Hho sisters when they completed each 1/8 of a mile.
The young children were given snacks and a rock band kept up the tempo — the faster they played —
the faster the. kids would walk.
The Fast Hockaway Mini Walk was truly a maxi success. Approximately $1,(I(M» is e.vpected to reach
Walk-a-thon Headi|uarters by the end of this month which M ill directly help the March of Dimes in its
fight against birth defects.
