Vol.14 No. 4 E n t e r f d a s S e c o n d t ' l i i s s Mutter

Personalities by Annette Ling
Frank Taormino, President of
the Rotary Club of Lynbrook, is a
very warm and compassionate
person who has that special
feeling for other people and their
special interests with great
charm and wit himself which he
is able to convey to others. He has
what might be called "a feeling"
especially for others that is quite
unusual in this day and age. It is
this special empathy which
probably makes him an excellent
lawyer and one has the feeling
that he would go to great lengths
for something he believes in as he
is so sincere.
FYank is another of our hun-dreds
of Lynbrookites born in
Brooklyn in the old Bergen Street
and Pacific Street section to Ida
and Sam Taormino, now
residents of Fort Lauderdale,
Florida. He has a brother,
Joseph, a Supt. of Construction in
a large building firm and one
sister, Phyllis, Mrs. Julius
Delorandis of Hempstead.
When Frank was six, his family
moved to Ozone Park in Queens
and he attended schools there,
graduating from John Adams
High School. They later moved to
West Hempstead and Frank
graduated from St. John's
University and St. John's School
of Law. He and his partner have
their law practice in Lynbrook
and the firm is Blumen &
Taormino.
It is typical of Frank that
wherever he is, he gets deeply
involved in community affairs,
and is a born volunteer who
enjoys working with others
whether it be in Rotary, for
School District 1^20 where he is on
the School Board or in any type of
endeavor in which he can serve
and be of help to his community
and his neighbors.
He served in the Korean
Conflict in the United States
Army and by choice got involved
in the Army Corps of Engineers.
Frank likes huge trucks, bull-dozers,
cranes etc. He is not only
a fine attorney but can run any
type of heavy duty machinery
and figure out construction such
as clearing air fields or building
bridges. He served until the end
of the hostilities and the uneasy
truce was declared and the long
drawn-out battle for a peace
settlement at Panmunjun.
Outside of the memorable
moment when he married his
lovely wife, Frank claims that
when he actually took the oath of
allegiance to the flag and
realized just how proud and
thrilling it was to be an American
and that he was going off to serve
so far away, it was a time in his
life he will never forget. In this
troublesome period in American
history it is wonderful to hear
something like that.
He resumed his law practice
and married the former Connie
Palestro of Bayside in 1959 and
the couple have three lovelv

It was a long and busy Board of
Trustees Meeting of the Inc.
Village of Lynbrook on Monday
evening, June 17, 1974. After the
Board accepted and approved the
Minutes of May 20th and June
3rd, 1974. Police Chief Frank
Kehr gave a fine detailed Police
Dept. Report for May which this
writer unfortunately missed
having come a bit late due to
unforeseen circumstances.
However with Chief Kehr and his
fine Police Dept. one has the
comfortable feeling that all is
well and a good job is being done
by each and every member of the
force, which is one to be proud of.
Although his report was 13th on
the Agenda he gave his first
because he had pressing duties
calling him elsewhere.
Ti'ustee O'Brien explained that
Liberty Mutual Insurance Co,
has finally got full clearance
from the City of New York and
will proceed with their new
Parking F'ield which is in the rear
and will greatly increase the
badly needed parking facilities
for the firm.
Mayor F'rancis Becker has the
Mayor of Hempstead as his guest
and it was necessary for Deputy
Mayor Kurt Arndt to chair the
Meeting as Mayor Becker is
preparing for an important
hearing on New York State
Revenue Sharing and is now the
President of the New York State
Mayors Assoc., while the Mayor
of Hempstead is Vice-President.
Mayor Becker has been trying to
get Lynbrook and similar
villages which have a like
population a better and fairer
share of the N.Y. State Revenue
which now goes to cities such as
Glen Cove which has the same
population as our own village but
gets so much more in actual
revenue.
F^ire Cheif Ralph Bien gave the
F'ire Dept. Report for May and
there were 77 ambulance and
rescue calls and they rendered
mutual aid to both Lakeview and
Rockville Centre in recent fires.
As usual, our fine Vamps are
always on the alert in any
emergency.
Ed Larson, Chairman of the
Recreation Dept. gave a fine and
detailed report and sad to say,
East Rockaway "slaughtered"
our Baseball Teams for the
Mayor's Trophy Game winning
by such a large margin this year,
it is too bad it did not rain etc.
The busy Senior Citizens Group
which meets at Greis Park had
over 600 in attendance at their
meetings this past month of May.
Several soft-ball and hard-ball
teams were formed and played
for different age groups and
there is something going on all
day and night at Gries Park
under the capable direction of
Director Maurice "Babe"
DeLucca.
The final awarding of the bid
for the much needed Fire Dept.
Pumper truck was announced
and much of the detailed work
and research on the
specifications for this are the fine
work of P^i reman George
Shephard who did a splendid job
flowing through with details and
a careful study for the Fire Dept.
It will take almost one year until
