Thorp Seeks
More State Aid
For Villagers
In an elfort to correct the
inequitable distribution of state
aid to incorporated villages,
Assemblyman John S. Thorp, Jr.,
has introduced a bill which
amends the aid formula and
provides for a substantial in-crease
in state assistance.
The measure specifies that, for
the distribution of state aid,
villages of over 15,000 population
would share in the 9% of the state
personal income taxes which are
earmarked for that purpose.
Under present law the funds are
distributed to cities, regardless
of- size, leading to gross
inequities.
Thorp pointed out that in
Nassau County, the village of
Lynbrook, population 22,000,
received $113,000. in 1971, while
the City of Glen Cove, population
24,000 received $820,000. Both of
these communities provide
essentially the same services to
their residents. Many smaller
upstate cities which furnish
fewer services than Nassau
County villages, receive sub-stantial
aid merely because of
their classification as cities.
Under the provisions of
Assemblyman Thorp's bill, the
larger incorporated villages in
Nassau County, such as Rock-

Boy Scouts In" At Lynbrook Uillage Hall
The Boy Scouts of America
took over Lynbrook's Village
Government at the regular open
meeting on February 26th. The
custom was started by Mayor
Francis X. Becker, and for the
last five years the Scouts have
run the public meeting on Boy
Scout Government Day. Sitting in
for Mayor Becker was Joseph
Mauro and Gregory Pedi was
Trustee William Buzzeo's
replacement. Acting in Trustee
Kurt Arndt's position was Brett
Swartz and Wesley Hutchinson
handled Trustee William
O'Brien's seat, while John
Swenson acted in Trustee
Lawrence Florio's stead. In
addition, Gary Hensely acted as
Village Attorney, Charles
Kuhnow as Village Clerk, Paul
Pronko as Police Chief,
Segismundo Esposito as Fire
Chief, Mark Mendelsohn as
D.P.W. Superintendent, Brian
McTigue as Superintendent of
Buildings, Ralph Zani as
Recreation Commissioner and
Michaef Henrichs as Librarian.
All received certificates of
appreciation from Mayor
Becker. Pretty soon it will be the
Girl Scouts turn.
