Fly Flags For P.O,W.S
Hempstead Town Presiding
Supervisor Francis T. Purcell
and Hempstead Village Mayor
Dalton Miller have joined
together in urging residents of
the Town and Village to fly the
American Flag until all United
States prisoners of war return
home.
"It seems appropriate that the
'Red, White and Blue' should be
flown from every home, business
and public place at this time,"
Purcell said.
"We have a 'Peace with
Honor', "Purcell noted "and the
courage and patriotism shown by
our P.O.W.'s is indicitive of that
honor."
Mayor Miller is concurring
with Supervisor Purcell said,
"While we are overjoyed by the
return of our men we must also
temper our joy with the
realization that thousands of
others gave their lives while
defending freedom in Southeast
Asia."
"We can best commemorate
the return of the P.O.W.'s by
displaying the symbol that they
and others sacrificed so
much and so bravely for."
Both Supervisor Purcell and
Mayor Miller requested that
starting immediately the Flag be
flown in front of all Town and
Village Buildings in honor of the
P.O.W.'s.
