Beginning October 1, 1973
Kiwanis clubs throughout the
United States and Canada will
launch a program aimed at
"making the later years, greater
years." Entitled ENRICH THE
LIVES OF THE AGING, the
program is the result of extensive
research and organizational
effort, according to William M.
Scheeser, president of the
Kiwanis Club of Malverne. He
added that the facilities of the
National Council on Aging have
been employed in program
preparation, and that the
organization has contributed
advice and counsel to Kiwanis.
The program will cover a wide
latitude of services to older
citizens, with individual Kiwanis
clubs electing to undertake one or
several individual services.
Services included in the
program are: Senior Volunteer
Program - Senior Worker Action

Arts Program - Friendly Visitors

The Kiwanis ENRICH THE
LIVES OF THE AGING program
received a challenging en-dorsement
from "Jack Ossofsky
executive director of The
National Council on the Aging, at
the time of the Kiwanis In-ternational
convention in Mon-treal
this summer where
Ossofsky was a speaker. He said,
"The action taken at the 58th
annual convention of Kiwanis
International, making services to
j:he aging a priority for the
coming year, can bring to bear
the vast potential of Kiwanis to
meet the challenges and op-portunities
that increasing
numbers of older people present
to society in all parts of the
world."
"In undertaking to improve the
quality of life for the elderly, you
(Kiwanis) are of course not only
serving others," he added, "but
laying the basis for a more
rewarding future for yourself and
your children and for elevating
the quality of community life for
all. For unless we change the
current status of the elderly
today, we will all stand in their
shoes tomorrow. You can make a
difference . . . and I hope you
will."
"The Crucible"

WARREN MARSH have the

"THE CRUCIBLE". In sup-porting
roles are VALERIE SCH-MIDT
as "ANN PUTNAM,"
SUZANNE BRAUN as "BETTY

According to Sheila Peck,
director of "THE CRUCIBLE",
each actor brings a special
dedication and intensity to ms or
her role. ^'ELIZABETH
PROCTOR" is the wife of a hard-working
farmer during the witch
trials in Salem, Mass. in 1692.
Because of the jealousy of her
husband's former mistress,
Elizabeth is herself accused of
being a witch. "SAMUEL
PARRIS, minister of the town, is
a cowardly man interested only
in being accepted by the town-speople,
now matter how much it
costs his self-respect. Miss
Tufariello and Mr. Marsh are
both experienced actors who deal
with their difficult roies in an
interesting and exciting way.
The other three characters are
also important to the play. "ANN
PUTNAM", having lost a
number of children at birth, is
only too willing to call out
"witch" to any woman whose
children are still alive. "BETTY
PARRIS" is a 10 year old who has
herself taken part in witchcraft
rites. "SARAH GOOD" is an old
woman who is accused also. All
donations go to Link, a com-munity
counseling and activity
program open free of charge to
youth and adults of this area.
