ANNUAL RED MASS IS HELD
ON LONG ISLAND. MARKS
OPENING OF COURT YEAR.
ASKS GOD'S BLESSING ON
JUDGES, LAWYERS AND
OTHER JUDICIAL OFFICERS.
Under a colorful setting the
annual Red Mass was held
Thursday evening at St. Agnes
Cathedral, Rockville Centre, L.I.
It was under the auspices of the
Catholic Lawyers Guild. Under
the setting sun the procession
proceeded in two lines from the
rectory to the front doors of the
catherdral, led by the colorful
honor guard of the Knights of
Columbus, followed by about 60
judges in their black robes, the
lawyers, court attaches and
friends. It was a concelebrated
mass over which The Most
Reverend Walter P. Kellenberg,
D.D. Bishop of Rockville Centre
presided. The preacher was Rev.
Arthur J. McNally, Associate
Editor of Sign Magazine, Union
City, N.J. Bishop Kellenberg
spoke briefly at the close of the
mass and greeted the members
and guests as they filed from the
Cathedral. The Red Mass is held
each year to mark the opening of
the new court session. The Mass
Book used is red, hence the name.
It is a practice followed over a
large part of the U.S. The epistle
part of the mass was read by
Miss Jeanette P. Kostyrka,
president of the guild, of Lyn-brook.
The Guild is composed of
member lawyers and judges of
both Nassau and Suffolk Coun-ties.
Edward J. Walsh Jr. of
Rockville Centre was chairman
of the event. The mass was
followed by a dinner at The Arbor
Inn, Rockville Centre.

Malverne Fire Department. Sorley is moving from the fire district.
Special Programs To Be
Held At Lynbrook Library
October will be a busy month at
the Lynbrook Public Library. In
addition to the excellent Tuesday
night films, there will be TWO
SPECIAL PROGRAMS that will
interest almost everyone.
Monday, October 15th at 8 PM
Mr. Frank Farrell, of Loeb,
Rhoades and Company, will
again present one of his in-teresting,
informative talks. He
will discuss tax free bonds and
will answer questions from the
audience.
Tuesday, October 30th at 8 PM
a speaker from the Agricultural
Division of Cooperative Ex-tension
in Nassau County will
talk about "Bringing Nature
Indoors with Foliage Plants."
