NEWSPAPER RECYCLING PROGRAM TO START
The Village Board of Trustees
in Lynbrook has taken an im-portant
step toward aiding the
ecology. Arrangements have
been made to pick up bundled
newspapers for recycling. The
program starts on Wednesday,
February 7th when pickups will
be made curbside at liomes on the
North side of Sunrise Highway.
The next day -- Thursday,
February 8th - will see a similar
operation on the south side of
Sunrise Highway.
According to Mayor Becker
and Trustee William Buzzeo who
made the announcement jointly,
arrangements have been made
through Lynbrook's new Council
for Conservation of Environment
which is being organized. Mrs.
Dorothy Hornung is Chairlady
and her Deputy Chairlady is Miss
Martha Zafonte. Serving with
them on the* Council are Frank
Hillgardner, Mrs. Ann Mongelli
and Paul Kramer. When the
Council is complete they will
have 9 members and in a sense be
a separate authority eligible for
State aid.
According to Trustee Buzzeo,
the Village will t>e saving a
substantial amount of money
with this newspaper recycling
program, in addition to helping
the environment. At present,
Lynbrook pays $6.00 per ton of
refuse at ^ e Town Incinerator.
Since newspapers weigh very
heavily, the bill is substantial at
the end of the year. "I h<^
everyone really cooperates"
Buzzeo said "because if we can
make this program a success,
we'll be doing the environment a
good turn and saving a lot of
money besides. I'm sure it will
work, too, if everyone remem-bers
Wednesday and Thursday as
special pickup days."
The newspapers hould be tied
securely and put at the curb the
night before collection is to take
place.
