Rockaway, is among 34 Colgate
University seniors elected to Phi
Beta Kappa this spring.
Initiation of the new members
of New York Eta chapter of the
national academic honorary
society took place on campus
April 3.
A 1969 graduate of Lynbrook
High School, Rosenthal is con-centrating
in political science at
Colgate. A consistent Dean's List
student, he has an average of 3.50
(on a scale of 4.) for seven
semesters of study.
Michael Shindler
Michael Shindler, the Com-munications
Commissioner of the
Village of Lynbrook is one of the
rare Lynbrookites who were not
born in Brooklyn or Queens. He
was born in Hurleyville, N.Y. to
the late Arthur Shindler and his
beloved mother, Olive who is still
active and has just as interesting
a personality as her son.
Mike is an only child and has
always been a keen "radio and
telegraphy" enthusiast. He was a
"Ham Radio" operator at a very
early age and when he was in
Hurleyville he worked during
Summer vacations with the
railroad as a telegrapher and
handled all radio messages for
his line.
After attending grade school in
Hurleyville, Mike graduated
from the Wron Preparatory
School in New York City and was
the Salutatorian of his class.
Upon his graduation from prep
school in 1958, he went to Adelphi
University where he earned iiis
B.A. in Personnel Management.
While he was at Adelphi, he
was Chief Engineer of his college
Radio Station, WLIR and was
also a Disc Jockey.
At Adelphi, he was responsible
for the preparation of a lot of the
education programs which were
sent to other colleges.
He was selected to advise the
Haitian government on the in-stallation
of an educational radio
system in Haiti.
Mike met his marvelous wife,
"Sandy" at Adelphi and married
her in 1962. They were married on
Mike's birthday, on Jan. 20th and
that is one annual double an-niversary
that the Shindlers are
unlikely to forget. They just
celebrated their 10th Wedding
Anniversary.
They have two children Stacey,
age 7, and Beth, 7 months old, and
both are delightful girls full of life
and as pretty as their petite and
attractive young mother, Sandy.
Mike is a very worthwile and
interesting person with a quiet
and intellectual type of per-sonality
but he feels very deeply
about certain things.
